    Brilliant. I'm on it.

(I'll be back when i'm stuck with the form  )

oh also, i'm a bit worried that my summer spending might look bad. and possibly september is the worst time to apply?!

They look at your spending over the last three months (at my uni anyway) and discount anything they perceive to be non-essential. So, if you have been splashing out you maybe want to wait a while (all moral issues aside of course, the fund is for people in dire straights!)

Why can't you use the library facilities?
  • hi ive looked at all the pages and i cant find the link to the online form, can someone please tell me what it is. thanks

It'll be on your university's website. Probably on the registry's pages.

    My library facilities?

I don't know that I've been splashing out, but since I wasn't at uni at that time I it won't accurately portray my regular spending, such as food, uni materials, books etc, it will include a couple of flights, money spent abroad (even though it was for my course- i suppose i could explain this, car insurance! hmm.
Will regular donations to charity be held against me? (that sounds a bit stupid, as it's good, but possibly looks like i have spare money)

(although i think there isn't a form online, you should go to your uni and get a form)

If it is for course related expenses then you can say so. If you can justify the flights then say so on the form - the more info the better really.

And regular charity donations will not look 'good' imo when you are applying to a fund intended for people with no money to live. I would put a halt on those for now - you can always pick then up again at a later date.

Car insurance is a necessary spend, if you need a car. It depends doesn't it? I live 30 miles from my uni and have children at home so a car is not a luxury - I don't know your circmstances so I am in no position to judge whether your car is necessary or not. All I can say is, student finance will not penalise you for having it, if it is. Not sure that makes sense?

Basically, they will not count anything they deem to be non-essential spending (as far as I am aware - I've never actually applied myself but have seen the form at my uni) and they go back three months. If you feel you can justify the spending then go for it but if not, you may be better off waiting three months.

By library facilities, I meant the TV and VCR etc but I have just realised (DOH!) it was someone else who said they and your reply to them was the same as mine! Sorry! :o

Can anyone tell me if you get "priority" or your application gets more favourable response depending on your year of course. e.g. if you are a final year student compared to a second year student? Does a first year student get more "priority" than a second year student?

(don't think i have explained myself very well today...)

Final year students are a priority at my uni, over earlier years at least.

I guess it is about needing to keep 'bums on seats' and the uni not wanting to lose someone that close to finishing?
  • I think it's because final year students have a smaller loan and are unable to do much (if any) part-time work
