Well I got refused! Not happy as I know for a fact that people in a better position than myself have been accepted at my uni!
To be honest I was getting a little bit fed up of my course (but was willing to carry on as I've already spent so much on being there!), and now that it seems I can't afford it I don't see the point in carrying on
Sorry I'm just a little bit down about it and fancied a whingeMarried 5th June 20101st Baby born 12th April 2011:j0 -

Salesadmin cant you appeal against that decision? I have heard of people who have successed through an appeal.0 -
They have invited me to make an appointment with a financial guidance person to discuss why they won't give me anything.
I'm going to make the appointment on Monday and keep my fingers crossed, it annoys me that people at my uni who don't have the commitments I have i.e mortgage etc and also get parental help have told me they got something
I quote them:
· Students with children (especially lone parents)
· Mature students, especially those with existing financial commitments, including priority debts (This applies to me)
· Students from low income families (Not sure what they class as low income but we currently have the grand sum of £80 a week coming in!)
· Disabled students (especially where the DSA is unable to meet particular costs)
· Care leavers
· Students from Foyers or who are homeless.
· Students receiving the final year loan rate, who are in financial difficulty (including those who are unable to work because of academic pressure).Married 5th June 20101st Baby born 12th April 2011:j0 -
Is it also applicable to Nigerian student?0

I was wondering if my ISA would make a difference if i declared that it was for the MA i was funding in september as the Uni i am applying for to do my MA require proof i can fund myself and as such i would not be using that money for my own personal gain but for future study and therefore would be accounted for?0

FYI my university has refused to accept my application for the access fund as I have an ELQ qualification (degree from 18 years ago) They also refused to give me the £1000 bursary given to all full time students on a low income.
May mean the course is beyond my reach after the first year, as people like myself receive no funding.0 -
Does anyone ave experience of applying for this with the Open university?
Also, they want proof such as receipts, how can I give this when i haven't spent it yet? or should I just give a detailed breakdown forecasting the costs?
For example, internet access? I dont currently have a contract in my name - should I just tell them how much a particular tariff would cost?0 -
I have picked up a ALF form today from my unversity (Gloucestershire). I applied for the fund last year but was turned down but not sure why they just said I did't qualify as it was based on travelling costs and another measure which I can't remeber. I am in real financial difficulty due to the fact I attended university in 2004 for a year but left. I am now in my second year at my current university but am struggling with my finances. Surely this fund is for someone in my circumstances. I have debts on and overdraft does this count as the 'priority debt'? What did people put on their applications that have got accepted? Also I have course costs of £650 which I need to pay which I can't afford would this be counted as well?0
