3 Mobile Broadband

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me.
I have a 3 mobile broadband for almots 2 years. My contract is due to run out in a month. The thing is for the last 6-8 months it has not been working it wont let me log on sometimes and when it does it will log me straight back off.I have rang technical help and got nowhere with them they say that there is good covergae in my area and at my work and boyfriends house but it still dosen't work. They said that it maybe my computer but i have got another mobile broadband with virgin and that works fine everywhere. I have continued to keep paying for a sevice that dose not work as they would not let me cancel.
I rang up yesterday to give my months notice and they have taken it. But when i was on the phone i mentioned to the lady about the problem that i had been having and that i had not been using it for about 6 months and she said that she could see that on the screen. She then asked me what dongel i have got i have got the one on a wire with a white pebble looking thing lol! she said that the reason this was not woking is cos the software on this is old and can not keep up with them new dongels and having new customers with the new software.
So therefore they knew what the problem was all this time that i have been paying and ringing up and getting nowhere. Now i wanting to now would i be able to get some money back for this? Has i have been paying for a service that dose not work when they said they was no problem and now that i am canceling they have told me what the problems it.
Cheers

Hello Gems, I can't help directly but I can tell you that I have a white flat dongle on a lead too, and it has been working very well since I bought it in June. It is Model E220.
It is prepaid so there is no contract.
I know that it is an older model, I got it cheap for that reason, but it works under Windows XP and LINUX and uses the HSDPA network.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Gems, I just wanted to confirm that the dongle does not work anywhere. Sometimes problems occur when they do maintenance and upgrades to the network in your area.
If this is so, then perhaps you could buy a new, USB dongle and put the SIM into it. I have found that 3 shops are very helpful, especially if you bought the dongle there in the first place.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

no it dose not work anywhere.
I live 25 miles away from work and 30 miles away from my boyfriend i have tried it in all these locations and it still dose not work. They have done the coverage thing and it's fine in all these areas and when i have rang up they have not been doing any maintenance and upgrades to the network in my area.

So it does look like it is the dongle or the SIM then. As I said, a 3 Store might test your SIM in another dongle for you, and a different SIM in the white dongle. That would highlight the problem.
There is another possibility: having a long cable reduces the chances of the dongle overheating, but it can still happen if you are online for a long time.
As there is only 1 month to go, it is a bit late to sort it out. People on MSE have not had much luck with getting their money back, but you could tell 3 that other people's old white dongles work.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I thin the best you could ask for would be a few months free if you were continuing the contract, but since you are terminating then they don't have much incentive to offer you anything now.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had a simliar experience with T-Mobile.
I would advise you to write/e-mail to their customer servies explaining the problem. Tell them you will be submitting a claim to OTELO (Office of the Telecommunications Ombudsman) if you are not compenstated. If they do not compensate you, submit a claim online with OTELO.

My daughter recently bought a new laptop which I set up for her with the necessary software (Office etc etc). I also installed a 3 mobile broadbang dongle which was a virtual freebie that some associate company of 3 was offering a few months ago and recommended on this site. I put in a brand new 3 sim card into the dongle and tested it to see that it was connecting to the 3 web-site. It connected fine and I left the PC, dongle, sim etc. with my daughter.
She phoned me yesterday to say that she was able to connect, not only to 3, but to her Yahoo web-mail, Facebook and much more. Neither of us has bought a PAYG voucher or set up a 3 mobile contract so how is she being able to connect for free? Does 3 give a few days/weeks trial period before they block internet connections or does she have the bargain of the year and is getting mobile broadband for nothing.
Does anybody else have any experience of this or is able to explain what is happening. We obviously have no desire to call 3 to ask!0 -
with a 3 sim card you get a certain amount of free internet usage then you have to topup to get it again.0
