It doesn't take ten months to realise you don't have good enough coverage sorry. You have no chance.

It was working fine for a short time when he first bought it, then it wouldn't work, so we took it back to the store who replaced it as they thought it was faulty. We tried again, but it still didn't work. We were in the process of moving house to an area that they said was covered. (We knew in advance that we were moving husband in forces) When we arrived at the new house it didn't work, so we just got broadband installed. My husband said he would only use mobile broadband when he went on courses. Everywhere he has gone, it hasn't worked. We have spoken to them and they just check the coverage and say it should be fine.
We have now since moved house again, and it still doesn't work, despite been close to a large city.
  • I'm looking for advice about my pay monthly mobile broadband with three.
I took out a 24month/15gb contract with them when I moved into my new flat, previously I had sky broadband and tv together.

The problem I'm having is that the service is redicuously slow (it's impossible to use my internet banking as I keep getting timed out!), connection gets lost/cut (downloads have to be started again, eating up my limit), or just does not work at all. Strangely, I get the three homepage and can access my3, but as soon as I try to load a different page the connection gets cut.

I've followed all of their tips and advice and even called the customer support, that was fun!. After being talked through a check on my laptop, I was told to take my dongle to my nearest three store so they could check it, it's over 30 miles away and I don't drive.

I've had enough of three and want to cancel my contract as they are not providing the service that I am paying for. Any advice on how to do this?

Is the problem just at your house or does it not work at any other location? If it's just a weak signal in your own area, then you have little grounds for cancelling. If it is a problem with the dongle then you have to let them check it out for you.
You are not going to get the same speeds that you had with landline broadband, mobile broadband is never an adequate substitute.

  • Sorry for short reply but 4th time typing! as connection keeps getting cut!

Works fine at work, 1 mile away. Doesn't work in flat even though the postcode checker claimed indoor & outdoor signal.

I checked before agreeing to contract, but now discover that the coverage info they gave me was false. I've been misled and Three are not providing the service they agreed to.

That's why I want to cancel and take out a landline connection instead.

So unless the dongle is faulty (sounds unlikely), you are simply in a bad location. The postcode checkers are not 100%reliable, as they only cover the general postcode area. Too late now, but what you should really have done is to try and check the 3G signal (maybe with a borrowed phone or SIM) at the actual location before buying. They will never guarantee reception at all locations within a particular postcode.
You can try to cancel on this basis. If you bought online or over the phone are you still within the 14 days cooling off period?

  • I bought the dongle 2 weeks before I was due to move, my move was delayed by 1 month and I have now been in my flat for 6 weeks.

I am well beyond the cooling off period, indeed I have been trying to sort this out for over a month now.

I didn't anyone else with a Three dongle, but people with Three phones said the coverage was good.

I feel that took all reasonable measures to check wether the product was suitable and was misled by Three when taking out the contract.

I am now stuck with a 2 year contract that is useless.

Has anyone been successful with Three cancelling contracts or even switching to Landline?

If they specifically told you that you could get coverage at your address/postcode, then that might be sufficient grounds, as you could claim mis-selling. Otherwise you have little chance, but you may as well try, you've nothing to lose. 'Good' coverage is meaningless, it doesn't mean you will get it at a specific place. A postcode could be generally OK, but if there is an office block between you and the mast, then obviously you won't get a signal.
You didn't need to test with another dongle, a 3 phone or SIM at the address would have told you there was no signal.
I don't understand your comment about switching to a landline-3 do not offer landline services.
If they won't cancel, then your best bet is to sell on the contract.

  • Thanks for your answers, you've been more helpful than Three's customer services.
One last question, what do you mean by selling the contract on? As someone for £300 quid for the remaing 20 months?

Yes, sell it on to someone you know and trust. Remember that although the DD will be switched into their name, the contract remains your responsibility. If payment is not made then it's you who is liable.
