3 Mobile Broadband

The Three Mobile Broadband Mobile Starter pack is available from dixons.co.uk using voucher code 10MOBILE (until 24th May 2009) for £116.99

This provides a pay-as-you-go mobile broadband dongle with 24GB of data "prepaid" - so no topping up and no contracts required. There is a time limit of 24 months - so it runs out with which ever expires first. Then just top up as a normal pay-as-you-go mobile dongle if you wish to continue.

I've just ordered one successfully using the code.

This is much better for varied use (ie 3GB one month, next to nothing another month) and much better than standard pay-as-you-go. Three contracts have awfully high run-on-rates if you pass your monthly data allowance. With this you can use 10GB one month and nothing for the next few and not get penalised.

Just thought it may suit some other MSEers on here. Try to check you get an OK three signal where you are before you use it, and that it is good enough for what you want the internet for.

(the voucher code 10MOBILE also gets a 10% discount on the D100 wireless router for 3 mobile dongle if you're also interested)

    Good offer.

Does anyone know how the E220 modem included compares to the other "3" modems in the other pre-paid mobile broadband packages?
  • I just received the newsletter with a PAYG Three dongle for FREE deal:

I have just registered and got to the part where I have to enter my credit card details.

There is no security seal or padlock so your credit card details are not secure.

I have not purchased this as I feel my details are more valuable than a £25 saving.

I will leave you to make up your own mind so this is just a freindly warning thats all.
  • When you get to the payment page, right click on the grey box that is asking for your payment details.

View "properties". They have a full SSL certification now.

    This site is secure.

People are holding off this deal because people on MSE are giving incorrect information - as has been said above, the payment form is secure. The company who have partnered with Three (P-Micro) have used a new domain which they haven't fully secured, but I have ordered in the safe knowledge that the payment form is SSL encrypted.

They are based up the road from us too (Accrington) so can easily go thump their skulls :D

p.s. They use Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode to verify your identity so if you spot your username in the form you can rest easy.

Would I be right in thinking, that when you enter your card details in a non-encrypted page, which this one is, that when you click to the next page, that sensitive info is open to third parties, in plain text, to be potentially intercepted?

Going on what was suggested above, I right-clicked on card info input page, and FireFox security states:

    'Connection Not Encrypted
The web site ww*.**3dongles****** does not support encryption for the page you are viewing.
Information sent over the internet without encryption can be seen by other people while it is in transit.'

I don't care how secure the following procedures may be if security already broken.

    Please correct if wrong...

I stuck https:// at the start of the URL as a bit of peace of mind, and the padlock came up.

This site DOES NOT work properly with FireFox and the info below will be incorrect, use IE. FireFox wouldn't even render the page properly when I ordered so I was forced to use IE(8).

The PAYMENT form is protected, any username, password or address details will be in plain text UNLESS you do as the poster above suggests and change http to https (and ignore the warning that the certificate is invalid - this is because the certificate is for their main domain; www.micro-p.com and not their sub-domain).

Obviously it's down to the invididual but I can assure you I would not order from any site I deemed a security risk. Names and addresses are not a concern to me (that info is available in the public domain to anybody who cares to look for it). So long as the payment page is secure (which it is) I was happy.
  • I bought a 12gb prepaid dongle last September for £149.99. It has started to overheat and malfunction, so I may just try this offer. I can't believe how much prices have fallen.

  • Thanks guys. It is not clear in firefox why this happens. I tried it in IE and it works fine. I did check the security SSL issuer and they seem legit.

Fingers crossed I receive this dongle.

I will keep this dongle as a back up just in case my internet connection dies at work or at home.

You will need one of these per computer as it is USB connected. If you want it for a network environment you can purchase a hub so you can plug the dongle into it and connect ethernet cables to each of your PCs.
