Was this a pre- registration or an actual purchase? If you've actually registered it where did you go?0

Where from? This signature is not mine!0

Just for general info cause I just went through this...
123reg charge £15 (+vat) to pre-register with a full refund if they don't manage to register the domain for you.
If they do manage to register it, you're then charged another £15 for a year's registration.
The domain I registered is just sitting in my account under "pre-registered" so it's not been fully processed yet. I'll post an update if this changes.0 -

Cheers, the second reg link is charging 59 Euros so I'll give that one a miss
I'm currently waiting for the WHOIS thing to come back up so I can register.0 -
Names.co.uk charge £1 for the pre-registration and will debit your card by £24.99 if they manage to register it.
This works out a bit cheaper than 123!0 -
https://www.godaddy.com Was that a mistake? seems to work for me, and good domains are dissapearing in front of my eyes!0

Godaddy are still doing pre-registrations as far as I can see. Their WHOIS system is also based on their own previous registrations (and not the official WHOIS) so it's likely that many domains that are showing as available are not really.
Yesterday I checked some domains that were showing as available on Godaddy but were showing as taken on the official WHOIS.0 -

You could be right Charlie, I'm fairly new to domain reg, although I do think godaddy are a leggit, large company....(??!)
What happens if they sell you a doamin that's already registered? I almost managed to buy iPod.eu just now, but it was gone by the time I got to checkout!0 -
123reg's prereg system is currently screwed ..... gives invalid card detail error even though you havent been asked for a number yet.
Don't get me wrong here, i like 123reg and have 3 domains with them but gone to 1and1.co.uk for .eu reg. They charge £10.50 inc VAT for a .eu.
Hang tight, everywhere is running like they been hit by a legitimate DoS attack :P
I think 1and1.co.uk is the best value/most stable site at the moment.0 -

Same here - I'm just after one personal name that (hopefully) isn't in much demand.although I do think godaddy are a leggit, large company....(??!)
Indeed they are, but I don't know how fast/efficient they are at submitting registrations to the EU registrar people. What happens if they sell you a doamin that's already registered? I almost managed to buy iPod.eu just now, but it was gone by the time I got to checkout!
Not sure, I think some companies like 123 reg refund you if they can't get the name. With regards to ipod.eu, it was probably taken a few months ago by Apple when registrations were open to copyright holders (IMHO it's Godaddy who is out of date)0
