Does anyone know of a provider who offers a WHOIS privacy function for .eu domains? (so your name and address doesn't show up on a WHOIS search)

I've found a few that offer .eu domains, and they offer the privacy option but only for other domains like .com.

What are the legal implications of registering something like dixons.eu (just an example)? Could Dixons sue over this to get their domain registered? Just wondering...

yes pretty sure if its obvious like that then you are obviously squatting on their intellectual rights, but if you register playstation.eu and populate the site as a fan based site for the playstation then it will be harder to prove that you are squatting. They might either take you to court (they have enough money and a legal team to clean you out) or they might offer you some money.

.eu domains were open to pre-registration from trademark holders long before the general public. As "playstation" is a made-up word that belongs to Sony I think they'd just tell the domain registrar they wanted it back and that would be it.
    Can I help?

Is it really worth having a .eu domain name, are people going to recognise it? Just wondered.

It could be the next big thing, or not. Take a gamble but its a top level domain.

I checked some of the sites like 123-reg just after 11 and they are still showing as "pre-registrations". Are any sites taking proper registrations now?

Is it officially 11am UK time?

It seems that http://www.whois.eu/ is not available http://europeregistry.com/ and http://www.web-solutions.dk/eu/ are taking regsitrations but you cant get to the whois at the moment so everything has ground to a halt.

    Hi,

The .eu registration should start around 2:00pm. There's been a problem at the registry due to the sheer volume of orders going through. Your best bet for registrtaion would be Namesco (https://www.names.co.uk).
