My partner and I work as couriers for My Hermes. I can't speak for other couriers and what they do but Myself my partner and the woman who works with us are diligent in what we do. If a parcel is to be delivered that day we will try to deliver it that day. If a parcel needs a signature we will get a signature if we can. If a customer isn't at home we will attempt to leave the parcel in a safe place or with a neighbour, if that isn't possible we will try again the next day and the next and the next until we deliver the parcel. If we leave the parcel with a neighbour or if we find a safe place i.e a shed, we will pop a card through the customers door telling them where they can find their parcel If we have to collect a parcel we will be there that day to pick up the collection. Sometimes the customer won't have the parcel ready so we will wait while they wrap it etc. If they are not in and haven't left it anywhere for us to collect we will put a card through the door to let them know we tried to collect. We will attempt to collect a parcel 3 times after that the customer will have to make arrangements elsewhere. We have never had a complaint against the way we deliver for my Hermes. I am not defending My Hermes here just us as Couriers. Myself, my partner and the woman who works with us give a very good service, we would not have it any other way We are not Monkeys.0

Agree totally with you. Here in West Cornwall we have two excellent couriers and always have our goods delivered on time and have their home numbers if we were to have any problems. Maybe if you were to live in areas where jobs are plentiful things may be different but down here where jobs are as rare as rocking horse poo most people are grateful for paid work.0 -
Thanks for your support Nick. People shouldn't tar all couriers with the same brush. We work very hard here in North Wales most people would not want to do the job if they saw where we have to go to deliver parcels here. Up mountains where you could have a 200 foot drop one side of you, we also have farm dogs to contend with, not knowing if they are friendly or otherwise but we do the job because we love it. At least we are not stuck inside an office or a factory. Our customers also have our mobile numbers to ring should there be any problems. If there is a problem of any sort we will try to sort it out as quickly as possible for our customers.0

I love myhermes. Now over 400 orders delivered succesfully. If you ever have any problems then message them through facebook and your get a reply within 30 minutes.
My local courrier is fantastic. To keep his costs down he uses a mini metro0 -
From our experience, I would never send using, or buy from any seller using hermes or collect+ (yodel).
But I think telling sellers not to use them is not the way to force the couriers to improve the level of "service". Some ebay sellers need to use the cheapest tracked option, just to help protect the ebay account from the ongoing cull of sellers.
The seller does not know that if he uses these companys to send stuff to me, the chance of a successfull delivery is only about 12% in our case ! with 14 items + 2 returns over about 9 months.
So if you are going to list with these couriers, please consider adding other options so that buyers who know that these couriers will simply not get the item to them successfully, can still buy from you
oh and if you list with royal mail but change to courier when you find royal mail cost is more than you thought, please let your buyers know first, so they can warn you if these are no use to the buyer.
Personally I pay extra to get a decent (to us) courier/postal service who have managed to get literally 100s ot items to me with no problems at all. (except 1 royal mail item was smashed, but that was down to bad packing)
When it comes down to knowing if a certain courier / postal service is going to work ok or not, its the buyers who are on the reciving end of the "final mile" "couriers", so please allow them a choice of courier/service if possible.0 -
As I have said before I have been using MyHermes and have been very impressed. 2 working day delivery up to 1kg with full tracking for £2.78- I could not afford to use RM for those parcels. I do still offer RM at £5.20, but surprisingly few people opt for it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. 407 parcels collected/delivered in last 2 years only 1 breakage ( my fault ) hardly a total quack company"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

I would pay the £5.20 to get royal mail if I needed the item :-) still cheaper than my travel costs to get to/from town.
The sad thing is since ebay are using collect+ for managed returns, Im going to have to stop buying from business sellers on ebay if ebay are going to decide who the return courier must be if I have to use it :-(
Iv had to return 2 damaged items with them to a major online company, both times the "tracking" failed and the only way I knew the company had the items back was when they refunded me.0 -
Google the reviews of any courier and there are horror stories. I think My Hermes comes down to their self-employed local courier. Mine is really great and goes out of his way to be flexible and work round me. Out of 100s parcels sent by them have never had My Hermes lose a parcel. They have broken a few but to be fair they do say if it can't be dropped then it should not be shipped.
I have also had Yodel manage to break a new suitcase which considering how airport baggage handlers throw them around, quite an achievement.0 -

yes thats the main problem from what Iv had at 2 addresses, and its the buyers who have that info. thats why shouts of "stop using x or y" is pointless to a seller, but if sellers give buyers the option of picking the courier from the options the seller likes, then everyone should be happy.
in the last month I have bought a laptop, tablet & mobile from local supermarkets at more/same than they were on the river because I cant take the chance that these couriers might be used for that value of item. If the river gave me the option of paying any extra cost for a courier I know works to my address, Id have bought them all online and saved myself the hassle of a couple of shopping trips0
