  • The few times that I have used myHermes previously, I have had decent service but the latest experience has really put me off. The courier failed to show up to collect the booked package and the website does not offer a telephone number to follow up. I sent in the email form as instructed and got an automated reply promising a response within two days. This isn't really good enough anyway but they have completely failed to get in touch either. Anyone with thoughts on how to get back the fee I paid for a service I haven't received from a company that seems to be completely inaccessible? Or shall I just write off a fiver to experience?

    just found this thread.

    same problem here.

the first issue is they clearly have low standards for 3-5 day delivery time, but then thats if you lucky.

My item after a 6 day wait finally showed on the tracking to be out the depot for delivery but then this happens.

27/03/2013 08:45 Not Received by Courier
Been like that since. The sender is on to them for me now but no update yet.

To people using them is it really worth it? stress, refunding customers etc.
  • I personally didn't have any problems with this company. Item was delivered in 3 days, courier was pleasant and arrived within the hour from the website stating the parcel was with the courier. Sorry other people have had bad experiences, but not me :j

Nor me, my Wife uses Next and (unfortunately) her deliveries and collections are always on time, if only Next didn't stock such tempting things. :(

I'm a Hermes courier. Have been for just over a year now.

We have had a surge in business since March on larger parcels being sent by small traders and private individuals through MyHermes. This is in all likelihood because Royal Mail increased their parcel prices for larger parcels in March, I think it was.

Us couriers use our own vehicles. We pay for our own expenses, including fuel and other vehicle expenses (as we are classed as self-employed, although I class that as pretty laughable really). With all these larger parcels, on some days we struggle (and occasionally fail) to fit everything into our vehicles. Therefore not surprising that more parcels are arriving late or damaged, as plenty of parcels get crammed in to our vehicle so that everything will fit in).

Recently, Hermes have gained a new client in my patch. It is a small business that send out fairly substantially sized parcels. I have to pick them up from the client and take them to our depot. One day recently I had 29 of these to collect. They would not all fit in my estate car, even though no other parcels were in my car at the time (I knew I would have problems fitting them in so deliberately went there at 9.00am when they opened before then going to my depot to load up my car with that day's deliveries). The depot is only open between 8am and just after 10.00am each day. I had to pick up some of the parcels from this address at the end of the day after completing all my deliveries. Many other couriers would not have done this because it is all extra mileage which eats into your real wages, (although in this case 29 parcels does help build up your pay because you get paid by each parcel and not each stop.) It just goes to show though why service levels may not always be high!

This problem will only get worse from October onwards, in the lead-up to Xmas (unless maangement sees fit to make changes, or other outside events occur that mean not so many people choose to use Hermes). Next parcels (traditionally Hermes biggest client) seem to have actually gone down significantly over the last two or three months, it seems. They will have a sale later this month though so there will be far more of these to deliver then too.

All of this is not to say that some couriers do not do their job properly, regardless of extenuating circumstance. I know some couriers will routinely throw breakable items over gates or leave signed-for deliveries on front doorsteps, if no-one is at home.
I'd sayt his is the minority of Hermes couriers but they certainly do not give the company a good reputation.

To be honest we have rarely had problems with Hermes unlike some other members. I would imagine keeping Next as a customer must rate extremely high on Hermes priorities. My Wife is an avid Next customer and eagerly awaits the new catalouges even though we have to pay for them, just another bone of contention in my opinion. My wife always orders two or three sizes of everything that takes her fancy, just in case, and ends up returning almost everything for obvious reasons (you only pay one delivery charge per order). I would imagine that our delivery agent is more than happy with my Wife's system as they also get paid for returns as well as deliveries, its really heart warming to know that we are helping to keep Hermes in business but I would prefer that my Wife would stop receiving Next catalouges :( fat chance of that ever happening.

Can I ask who to use instead of MyHermes? Royal Mail prices are too high and I don't know who else to use.

Bad experience with MyHermes. Parcel wasn't attempted to be delivered to my customer at all, it sat in the depot for two months and was then returned to me. That's my first experience of MyHermes. The second was a 'delivered to porch' job so needless to say, I'm not impressed and looking for ebayers advice on who else to use???

I've used Collect+ for about 30 parcels over the last 2-3 months since RM took the **** with their price increases. All have arrived on time and without incident. They are slightly more expensive, but not much.

I used MyHermes last week for the first time as they take longer packages (Collect+ max length is 60cm) and they also arrived fine.
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Thanks. I was thinking Collect+ might be the next best option. Only problem with couriers is people not being in during the day to collect. If that happens with collect plus will they re-deliver again and then send on to depot? Or will they take it to the nearest collection point?

I think I'll give them a go next. :T You're sure right about Royal Mail - rarely had problems with them but that price hike has made it totally unprofitable to use them. When someone buys something at £9.99 they don't want to pay the same again to have it delivered!

I guess its a case of using the service which works best for you and until something goes wrong you just won't know.
I have used both collect+ and myhermes. I prefer the convenience of a courier collecting a pile of parcels if I am home all day. Have had claims with both and to be honest myhermes dealt with my claims (one for a lost parcel and one for a damaged item) much quicker than collect+. In fact myhermes came out better as collect+ only paid me the cost of the damaged item whereas myhermes paid me the cost of the damaged item plus they refunded what I'd paid for delivery.
