  • DELIVERED !

A moment ago DPD brought the parcel in a van - no boot marks, no sign of damage, signature required. Germany to UK 6 days. I had checked the DPD website, no trace of the item on their tracking using the Hermes number.
However, using the DPD number on the label (totally different to the Hermes of Germany one supplied by the seller of course) the DPD website says
the parcel was collected 11 Feb (doesn't say where from, presumably the UK hub) and 'expresspak dpd next day delivered 14 February 2011 9.01 signed for by [surname]' Looks like it was updated in real time.

Not a bad service at all, which tends to suggest threads like these on the internet can in some cases cause premature grey hairs.

Of course, if DPD or Hermes Germany had managed to send a new tracking number on the 11th then concerns would have been allayed.

Disagree - the line is blurred, and if you look elsewhere on the web you will find similar confusion.

    A final update:
Parcel and contents 100% ok, item (electronic) was averagely packed but arrived sound.

I sent a customer enquiry in poor German to Hermes (Germany) on Sunday asking about the parcel and they replied, having obviously contacted DPD for the tracking ref number and in their email Hermes of Germany confirm delivery and the date/time all correctly.

Can't fault their service. Now, if you look on the web you will see some negative stories about parcels from Germany to the UK via Hermes - however, my experience was absolutely fine, a week for delivery is acceptable. My worries were caused only by the ceasation in tracking because Hermes handed it over to DPD and neither DPD nor Hermes at that point told me the new tracking number or even where to track it. I found the new tracking number only on the parcel once delivered. That is where Hermes and DPD could improve, although it may be the case that the seller got the new tracking number from DPD but didn't pass it to me.

With apologies to Custardy, but as this thread will come up on someone's Google search, I just wanted to add that as a helpful PS.

Was about to use Hermes until I came across this thread...
    Their website says
'Delivery are not guaranteed but currently enjoy a 96% success rate'

think i will give them a miss now!
  • I have used them twice for Ebay sales, before I saw this. Pick up, delivery and service excellent for me. I will continue to use them.
  • Update on eBay purchase:-
    Ordered Friday 11th.
Dispatch e-mail from seller and My Hermes Sunday 13th
Delivered 17th. I was out so it was left with neighbour. There was some minor damage to item, but the condition of the packaging, suggests that it was damaged when packed.

  • Interesting to read all the comments on how bad hermes are on here...I hae worked for them & sent parcels with them, so i am in a position to have a say....

1st of all, I agree completely with the gentleman who states that we only hear about the things that go wrong...HERMES are the biggest parcel delivery company in britain now & are ever expanding.

They have the least amount of customer complaints per employee/parcel rate also...

They offer a "personal" delivery service, whereby the couriers give out their numbers & customers do the same...this results in higher customer satisfaction, delivery & collection targets.

As for parcels going missing, i am astounded to hear of the amount of people complaining about parcels going missing & accusing the couriers!!!...Let me give you some instances...Courier is instructed to leave parcel in garden shed by customer, parcel is left in shed & card is popped through letter box...customer picks up parcel but decides that they dont want to pay for parcel(sony psp + games), they call hermes & say they received card but no parcel, hermes contact courier & courier insists parcel was left...putting courier on spot & in a unessecary state of guilt!..Next day courier goes to customer & apologises & customer is fine about it as parcel is being replaced!...Courier delivers parcel to another customer across the road in block of flats, that customer states "Isnt it a bit dodgy leaving parcels in peoples sheds?", courier replies by stating it is only at customers request, that customer states "I seen xxxxxx taking her parcel out yesterday but what if someone else had seen the courier delivering to shed?!!!"...Courier asked if they seen customer taking a small brown box from shed yesterday?...Customer replied "YES!"...Courier goes over & explains to other customer what they have just heard & customer admits they did recieve parcel & would i please not say anything!!!...This happens far to frequently!!!

Courier gets a call from line manager that another customer has not received parcel despite it saying that parcel has been put through letterbox on the tracking website...Courier is AGAIN left in a predicament!...Courier goes to the said customer the following day, customer opens door & the parcel can be VERY CLEARLY seen sitting on hallway table as customer opens door, courier asks if they received parcel, customers flat out states that they never, courier points to parcel on the table & customer gets angry & closes door in couriers face!...Courier calls manager & explains, manager calls courier back short time later & states the customer has dropped the compensation claim!...

These are just 2 examples of hundreds that go on with the 8000 couriers that hermes employ!...The couriers are not faultless, there will be some "dodgy" ones out there...but let me re-assure the public..that he vast majority of hermes couriers are all pulling in the same direction...& thatis to get your parcel or something you have sent to you or receipient as quickly & as safely as possible!...

    regards

  • Agree that all should stay well clear of myhermes unless you want the hassles of very late deliveries, incorrect deliveries, constantly calling the so called customer service and not getting an answer and not getting any return calls.

I used this company about 5-6 times, 2 times I had issues. Spoke to the customer service manager and as nice as she was, there is nothing much she can do to improve anything. I worked in transport in Australia for many years in Sales and I had to deal with issues but nothing like a 33% delivery issue rate.

Use if you want cheap deliveries. Use if you have time to chase deliveries but there are others to use.

By the way the 0800 174 904 is the courier drivers phone line but I only use this since its free and ask (demand if they refuse to) to be put through to customer service.
They can do it as 80% of the time they do but say they should not or they say to use the charge number. Hold your ground since they end up charging twice - delivery then phoning them.
