Well I can tell you all that it DOESN'T.
Well actually it "might" BUT...
After uninstalling the card software (using revo so I know there's no crud left behind) windows on a restart duly found the new device.
However, it point blank refused to "find" the driver.
Even when I pointed it DIRECTLY to the folder on the CD drive it still point blank refused to "find" it.
So I re-installed it as per the manufacturer's instructions - and here I am back again
But I DID LEARN SOMETHING USEFUL from all this.
I DO NOT NEED A LOCAL AREA CONNECTION.
HonestThe WAN stuff supplied deals with it all. So I guess I'm not risking the same connection from two different places tripping over each other.
AND... clicking on "my network" doesn't kick the card off line.
And yet the preparing networks connection STILL hangs and the SCM still only tells me that:
The DNS Client service hung on starting.
..with no further information because this all starts BEFORE the event logger starts to run.

NOT until I HAVE a disk, and necessarily even then until I find out WHY I have this problem.
As I've said, the laptop works just fine now - with the sole exception of this hang during startup.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Via device manager and windows update service, yes. Nothing newer available.
I don't have any handy device manager search&install stuff on this thing.
download.cnet have several listed but none of the downloads I've tried so far have worked, as downloads, that is. It's either file not found or a redirect to gawd only know where.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Thanks. It certainly will be helpful, for all sorts of things, but unfortunately not for the card that I have.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Eh?
Oh!
Looks as though either the Board Guide decided he was trolling or somebody reported him. Can't find him on the member's list now either.
Anyway, among the gems on that page were an updated bios, battery management (which I need for the other one) AND... joy of joys... a diagnostic utility!
I'm also clearly going to need to enable the boot logger because the SCM thing happens before the event logger starts.
So.... I may be gone some time!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
