Sunderland Travelodge i give 3 stars out of 5 stars and the reason i cant give it top marks is because i stayed there on a Friday night and there is a nightclub and weatherspoons under the lodge and i could hear music till 3am.
but theres a big disclaimer on the hotel details stating there will be noise due to the nightclub below the hotel
So if the hotel delivered on all other counts, should it not get top marks, seeing as you booked the room, knowing full well you would be disturbed by the music

Hi,
Im sure people completely acknowledge the 'noise warning' disclaimer, but wouldnt you think a hotel company who puts its customers and reputation first would instantly avoid opening hotels in rowdy areas?!?! There are not exactly an abundance of hotels in the sunderland area, so i'm guessing many have been forced to 'bite the bullet' and stay there kicking and screaming. Just because you have BEGRUDGINGLY agreed that there will be high noise levels outside, doesn't mean you are obliged to be happy with it!! Even with the disclaimer, a hotel should at least guarantee a peaceful stay.
Sunderland Travelodge sits above:
The Lambton Worm - A huge late licence wetherspoons;
Bud Bigalows - A late licence american themed bar;
The Players Lounge - A lap dancing bar for sad teenage boys.
And, to my knowledge, Travelodge OWN the full building, leasing the units out to the drinking bars. How immoral is that?????!
It is also slap bang in the centre of the main pub street of the city,with over 20 bars within a 100 metre radius The Travelodge car park is also used as a makeshift pickup/dropoff point for revellers, so there is a constant stream of rowdies and music outside until the early hours....
Travelodge rely on last gasp bookings, working travellers such as sales reps, and late night revellers wanting to go for a secret sh*g. They are very expensive, considering the rooms are extremely basic, and many without breakfast included. I avoid them like the plague, but because I work around the country a lot, I sometimes have no choice.Profit=sanity

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research0 -

but the lodges are aimed at people who want to be in the city centre, with all the associated nightlife. Looking for no frills, cheap accommodation
If you want a quiet night, you choose one of the other local lodges, there are several all within a 10mile radius of Sunderland
Most peoples complaints about Travelodge are that their hotels are based so far out of town, at motorway service stations, with no entertainment facilities. Travelodge have now branched out into city centre venues, with onsite clubs/pubs/bars, and still the customer is not happy
Breakfast isnt included because it leaves people free to eat/get up when they want. Why pay for something you might not use - however if there is a wetherspoons nearby all the better, great breakfast, and even cheaper than travelodges own restaurants
Dont know why its immoral for travelodge to have the good business sense to have restaurants and bars on site, that they dont have to run, but still make money from

I have stayed in a few now and never had a problem!
There is a new one being built on Newquay seafront so I have just booked a weekend there for £19 each for Fri and Sat night in Jan so hopefully it will make for a nice post Xmas Break!

It is impossible to contact the Complaints Dept of Travelodge. I booked a London hotel for two nights this August and unfortunately made an error online, booking the two nights twice. I immediately cancelled ie in seconds but did not realize that cancelling with a view to a refund would be impossible. It is difficult to book consecutive nights when they have their offers - each day has to be booked separately so making the procedure complicated. I did not realize they had charged me for this error until my credit card bill arrived. I emailed them immediately - they took 6 weeks to reply and stated that I had not told them soon enough!
They are not replying to emails or my letter. It may be best to book Travelodge by phone.0 -

I agree about problems with calling them via phone, have been on hold for an hour, and then got cut off.
I have never booked my £9.00 rooms separately though. Recently had 7 nights in London Tower Bridge, and booked it all in one go with no problems.0 -

If you book by phone you definitely WONT get the cheapest room,at least online you can see up to 10 locations and advance the date by up to a year.
Can`t be easier that that.
I always book whatever is the cheapest,one night at a time or a few nights together and always tell them on arrival how many nights I`m staying.
That way they program your key card for the whole period.
People book rooms by mistake but it`s Travelodges fault.0
