Do not stay at Travelodge!

I've stayed in Travelodges over the country for years and never had a serious problem. Anytime I've not been happy I've had a word with the manager (ie bathroom cleanliness) and they've resolved the problem and in one case even credited the nights stay.
I am not a serial complainer - but for years I inspected hotels for a living, so I always know what I'm talking about.
I think they offer fantastic value for money if you get a discounted room but I would NEVER order breakfast there. If you want that included then book Holiday Inn Express.0 -
We booked to stay in the new Harlow town Travelodge
The bed however was the most unconfortable I have ever slept in, I got virtually no sleep and was almost in tears through the night as I was desperate to be in good shape for the following day.
im finding that the mattresses of late, are nowhere near as comfortable as the ones ive slept on previously
they are so soft, its like the springs have gone, even before they have been used - i ended up sleeping on the sofabed, as it was firmer
Perhaps they have changed supplier?

My partner and I stayed at the Lowestoft travelodge last night. I would highly recommend it. Our room was at the back and looked out on lots of trees rather than the usual bins or busy road. The rooms were a good deal smaller than the ones we have stayed in in Great Yarmouth and Norwich but it was a perfectly adequate size for us. Right next door is The Harvester so you can walk across there for your dinner and on the other side of the road is a 24 hr Tesco so you could have a picnic in your room. Even better it only cost £9. Perfect!0

We have stayed in both and have had varied experiences. TL's tend to be less clean and the rooms not so well fitted out. However they are cheaper so that can be the plus in their favour. Barton Mills has a lovely member of staff who we get on well with when we go there. Other staff seem to be less friendly un general.
Premier Inn tend to be more comfy. the beds are better, rooms cleaner and staff are without doubt far more customer friendly. We like to stay at the Peterborough A1(M) one. Staff are excellent there.
The only issues we have had is snoring from the room next door once, which i suppose is better than hearing sex - although that is over quicker than the snoring :rotfl: and the slamming of doors occasionally in both establishments.
Hope this helps others.0 -
"Rag31, I am curious as to how your stay impacted on young children? We are looking at a couple of Travelodge stays and also have young children."
I've had mixed experiences, but my last one was booking a room with 2 cots for two very young children.
They left an answerphone message on my mobile at lunchtime while I was travelling to them, saying that they only had one! The hotel receptionist didn't offer any solution and didn't seem to understand that it would be a problem for me. We got it sorted in the end, when I proposed a solution and insisted. (I shouldn't have to do this when I'm en route to the hotel). I'm afraid it was enough for us to never consider using them again as a family.
The lower quality of eating establishment is also an issue, though. Compare a Little Thief b/f.....
Olympic b/f £7.25, Coffee £1.60, Cereal £1.50? toast/marmalade £1.50? Fruit juice £1.50 (guess - might not even be available), fruit salad £???
Or £7.50 for all of that at a Premier Inn, and they serve porridge as well...
And kids eat free at breakfast...
And you don't have to sit on plastic chairs.
I accept it's horses for courses though, and if you are really short of cash, a T/L may well serve your purposes.0 -

Met a couple of reception staff there, both very nice. Although they didn't get me my extension room they promised, but that wasn't their fault.0 -

It's only a minority of Travel Lodges that have a Little Chef as the only eating establishment - you could just as well object to those Premier Inns where the only place to eat is in a Beefeater, which I reckon is (or always used to be - I haven't eaten there for several years now) one of the most boring and overpriced chains going ....
As you say, it's horses for courses. I've had good and bad experiences in both chains, but as far as cheap London breaks go, Travelodge leaves Premier Inn standing0 -
(I haven't read all posts so I may have missed a comment about this!) I'm thinking of staying in the Blackpool one - the new one next the the football ground. I have 3 kids & really don't want to stay in ones nearer the centre of town as I'm aware of many hens & stags on their rounds, but has anyone stayed in this one?? It'll be for one night only & I need a car park at the hotel.0
