  • I've given up on Pontefract Ferrybridge Travelodge. Dirty fittings, mould on the ceilings and a bed which a big dip in the middle! Not to mention they insist on putting me at the end next to the very loud extractor fan for the services.

Travelodge do seem to build their hotels and then never ever refurbish them (York Tadcaster being a possible exception but even that is only partially done). So the newer the travelodge is usually the better room you'll get.

The latest from the Travelodge charm team:..........

Last Saturday night I booked a room for Chester Central for this Sunday night, on completion of filling in credit card details etc., a red box came on the screen saying that they were unable to confirm my booking-great! So I booked again, this time there was no box but when I saw the confirmation, my original booking HAD been accepted so I had two rooms.
I immediately sent a e mail to them saying that this booking was due to their website being faulty.
I did not receive a reply and sent a further e mail on Monday, I received a reply today saying that I have accepted their terms and therefore cannot cancel!!!

I replied within a minute stating that I will contact Trading standards if they continue to refuse me a refund, and believe me, I will!

If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know
    Filiss
  • Yes I had a similar problem back on April on one of the Sale days and their system kept crashing. Contacted Travelodge Quality management team who told me the same as they told you at first. Kept on complaining via email though and in August they finally recredited my payment card and gave me a little bonus for my troubles.
I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!

Stayed in quite a rew TL's last one was Bath Waterside. Had to pay for parking but the hotel was lovely, staff friendly and a beautiful walk into Bath. Was one of the best I have been to.

Manchester TL was a bit hit and miss.

Off on several weekends next month- the £9 nights really help me get away. Couldn't see the country (uk) without them.

Anyone been to the Spanish TL's?

probably have breakfast at a nearby McDonalds.

Always, but always, look for a JD Wetherspoon pub nearby to your chosen T/L. Most are open from 0900, a few much earlier in the big cities. They all do a very reasonable cooked breakfast for under £3 and adding on the tea/coffee and toast offer only comes to around £4 per person in total.

JDW have just brought out a new directory of all their outlets, which can be picked up in the pubs, if not on display ask at the bar - also don't forget to ask for the tea/coffee collectors card which gives one free for every five bought.

Stayed at Ed west end last week for three nights,10 minutes walk to Princes street and they have FREE parking.
I`ve also stayed at Ed central but they charge £10 per 24 hours parking and there`s only 40 places for 190 rooms.
Musselburgh is free parking but about 5 miles out.

i'm very tempted to go for Ed West for £32, but laterooms shows a B&B about 3 miles out for £75 including breakfast for three and also free parking.

Still undecided .... cheap no frills, or pay a bit more and get it all in one

Ed west end is a per room price and they also do a breakfast for £7-50,eat as much as you like.
Bit on the dear side but "kids" under 15 get it free with a paying adult.

A comfortable walk to Princes St. is only 15 minutes.
One street up is George St. where there is a Wetherspoon`s called the Standing Order, breakfast for £3,afternoon fish, chips, peas, bread & butter plus tea or coffee for £3-20p.(Mon to Fri 2-5pm),kids welcome.

A "day ticket" for the local buses costs £3 each, travel as much as you want.
Go to Leith to see the Royal Yacht but plenty to see in the city, which is very compact, the castle, then walk down the royal mile to the Scottish parliment and across the road to Holyrood palace.
There is even a FREE guided tour of Edinburgh that goes every day from the royal mile,to Grassmarket,Greyfriars Kirk etc.

thanks for that. I was checking out the local Wetherspoons on their web site. But they do not have any prices on their menus online. So I'll assume all their brekky's are £3.00 including the veggie breakfast option which i can see on their menu ...

Quick question .. are travelodge strict on their checkin/checkout times? I was hoping to arrive a bit early, say midday, park car in their car park, and check in if possible at no extra charge. Or, at least be allowed to leave the car there while taking a stroll into town for some sightseeing.

Same question goes for checkout ...

i am actually thinking of getting the Edinburgh Pass for one day to be used on the day i checkout. According to Visit edinburgh the pass costs £24 pp and you can get in free to loads of places including a Seafari fast boat trip and lots of other things. :

You can park your car as soon as you get there BUT they won`t let you check in `til 3pm but you have `til mid-day to check out.
If I were you I`d park the car up and don`t use it `til you leave because driving in Ed is a nightmare.
Princes St. is closed off (they`re putting back the trams) and there are a lot of road closed and diversions.
Stick your car inside the parking area and forget it.
