Hi Paul
your post seems to have been somewhat highjacked (albeit not maliciously).

So, how have things gone in the 3 months since you first posted?
You posted on 25th June that your wife seemed to accept that her spending was out of control - has she stopped spending so much?
Are you making inroads on your £20K debt?

Starting a new business can be risky, I assume that you've researched the market and are sure that the demand is there.

LOL. No problem with the thread hijack.

As for me, yes, wife has really changed her ways recently. Still the odd spend but nowhere near as bad as before.

As for the debt, yes, it is going down slowly. Hopefully, will be well under £20K by Xmas.

New business should be OK. We've spent £1.5K on startup but the margins for the business are massive. Each customer should gross us around £175-£200. Good, eh?

We've got some ready made customers lined up. A freind of ours works as a trainer in some salons and was always being asked about it. One of the reasons why we decided to go for it.
;25084677]OP here - LOL !!!

Yes. Thats the problem. Much more hours would mean increased childcare.

Also, we're trying to get a small business up and running at the mo. If this works out it might mean less hours at main job for wife. Starting a botox treatment business BTW.
Hope you're not suggesting I need Botox Paul? :rotfl:

Good luck - but you won't be seeing me as a customer!
• Hi am new to these forums, just wanted to say hubby and i bring in 2000 a month between us him more than me we've beenmarried 3 years and all his time i believed everything was ok as we nevefr sat downa nd talked outright about money. Lately things have been getting iffy as hubby announced last onth we didnt have enough to cover the mortgage. I was really shocked by this as we have seperate accounts and he covers the mortgage and i cover the car and insurance and food bills. I love to shop and thought nothing of buying clothes shoes jewellery handbags every month. He had been afraid to tell me as he believed it was his job as my hubby to provide for me and not ot other me with the details.

We have just (last week) started talking more about money and have written down all the debts and are looking at what our budget is for the month. He used to think that i wanted us to go out for dinne and movie every week and so on i used to think he did as he always suggested it i thought everything was ok and it wasnt.

Now he's told me the truth and the full picture i,m mending my shopaholic ways. have cut up me cards and his and we are looking at sorting our debts and paying them back. I've said sorry to him for allowing him to think I wanted to spend all that money on nights out and clothes and so on and he's decided he's going to be more assertive not mean and nasty just are you sure we need that etc.

I'm enjoying the challenge of the food budget and am learning loads on old style forum and the other places on here about recipies and ideas.

Hopefully you'll telll her the full picture and she'll help come up with an action plan

Hi & welcome, MrsClarkie

It sounds like you got into overspending simply by not talking about money.
Now you've started down the path of being honest about what you both want - hopefully, you'll start to make a difference to your debts now.

You might want to put up a SOA (Statement of Affairs) on the DFW board to see if anyone can offer ideas on cutting down your expenditure - here's the template if you do:
