I was so excited about going to pass my test back in March '87
My instructor had delayed putting me in for the test because I would, towards the end of lessons, start speeding. Fair dos.....of course I would not do that on my test
I've done two bike tests too, in German. Passed both first time - even though on the second test, my emergency stop - although successful - resulted in my front wheel locking slightly and turning. I did stop in a straight line and the layer of rubber and heat of the summer day did contribute.
My first test was done with a scooterboy. Who sped. And passed.
My second test was done with another chap who, when presented with an amber traffic light, opened his throttle and pushed on through. Oops. But passed, with a telling-off.
In 20 years, I've only written off one car and one bike. Got very nice replacements mind youIn the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0 -
Yep, i passed on my second attempt.
The first time I had some old one who thought he was living in 1759 or something.
He failed me because on a roundabout when i went to indicate, the sleeve of my jumper GENUINELY caught the indicator stick and for a few seconds I was indicating the wrong way while I pulled my arm away.
He didn't see this and just failed me because I indicated the wrong way for too long before correcting it.
I found out after the test when I spoke to my friends who had passed in the past (lol say that when your drunk lol) that the guy I had was notorious for failing people.
The second attempt was grand though, I was so nervous before and during the test, my legs wouldn't stop shaking. So much so that I failed a reverse park TWICE AND HIT THE KERB. And stalled 3 times.
Yet the bloke still passed me. He said that when I did all those errors, I exclaimed I thought I had failed. He was about to fail me but said after that my nerves went and I showed I could actually drive. So he passed me! I've kept the score sheet ever since as you can see the dot mark from his biro pen where he was about to mark a 'serious fault' box.
Since I passed all that time ago I went on to get 3 points on my license lol.0 -
I failed my first test for pulling out of a junction onto a 60 read and didn't see there was a car coming as there was a blind spot! 2nd time I failed was because I was sitting behind a bus at traffic lights. I was turning left and the bus was turning right. Because the bus' back end was sticking out I couldn't squeeze past and the examiner said I could have! So that was a major and then I got too many minors too as I was so nervous. rd time lucky u'd think... think not! I got a puncture! I was told I had the option of changing the tyre myself and if there was time I could continue with the test! Obviously I have no clue how to change it, so the test was abandoned and I had to walk miles back to the test centre. It wasn't classed as a fail though! 4th time I passed with flying colours!
My boyfriend failed his first for apparently driving too fast. He got the same woman for his 2nd and then failed for driving too slow! He passed on his third when he had a male examiner.0 -
Haven't seen anyone else post this, and it is only a minor tip, but someone mentioned at the start of the thread that they had problems with getting marked down for not showing they had looked in their mirrors, because the examiner couldn't see then looking.
When you get into the car, and have to adjust the mirrors, do it so that you can see out of them. Then move them a couple of millimetres so that you can't really. This makes you move your head to see out of the mirror, ergo making the examiner see you move your head. It's only a very slight movement, so make sure that it's not too big a strain to look in them....just enough to make a movement.0 -
I just had my 3rd today and passed :j - had a nice old geezer who seemed fair - I got twelve minors & he explained where I felt I had gone wrong & gave me a few tips for the road.
I did feel that my other two tests were a lot better, only 7 minors on each but first time I didnt indicate right on a roundabout & 2nd time I bumped the kerb coming back on my 3-point-turn, my tip is not to be too over-confident, especially young males & not to think you've failed and give up - drive right to the end as if you had passed - you never know!!0 -
I started this thread a while ago now.Well today was my lucky day! I thought it would never come.I passed 3rd time lucky.
The first one I failed for not checking my blind spot when changing lanes at a junction, and not checking all around when setting off again from the reverse around corner. The second one I turned into a minor road off a major one,it was very steep, and full of parked cars,so I had to wait for the on coming traffic, when I went I stalled and rolled back a couple of cm's,I knew this was an instant fail so wasn't much good the rest of the test either.
But hey thats all in the past!! I went for a drive with my 8 year old earyier, and came back the scenic way instead of the quickest which my partner would opt for,it felt really odd to have just my little lad sat beside me instead of an adult with licencen( what are the new rules about kids in the front? he's 8 and has a booster cushion)Then later took both my boys to their jujitsu class-which I've never attended before, because I'm usually home putting my little girl to bed.
I'm so excited!! For me this will be life changing,as we live in a country village with poor bus service,so at last I can get my kids to and fro without relying on partner and friends, the world is now my oyster! It's a bit sad really but the things I want to do are sell at car boot sales and go to tesco in the middle of the night(actually now that I can I don't think I want to anymore!!)
Anyway thats only the first of the scary things I have to do this week,on saturday I'm doing a sponsored abseil and zipwire with my sister,at Hillsborough football ground,we're taking part in memory of our brother it will also be the 9th anniversary of his death on the same day,he died suddenly from meningitis C so were raising money for the meningitis trust, should anyone want to sponsor me,follow the link below.(edit-my link to my just giving fundraising page has been removed for some reason? should anyone want it send me a pm)
And anyone who is still trying to pass don't give up it's worth sticking at it,if I can do it you can!0 -
I have my test in 2 weeks time and now, after reading these I'm really beginning to panic!Pucker up and kiss it Whoville! - The Grinch:kiss:0

Reminded me of my third test! I scraped the kerb twice when reversing around a corner, this was right at the start of my test. After I scraped it the second time, the examiner told me to drive on, and I thought I'd failed. I think it relaxed me, as i thought I didn't have to make too much effort anymore, and when we got back, he told me I'd passed!
First test - was too slow on country lanes, and didn't move back over to the left lane at lights.
2nd test - braked suddenly and almost had someone hit me - there is a big turn and hill junction in the town, and you can't see cars coming from the other direction until they are quite close.
3rd test - passed :jBlood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0 -
