I passed 4th time with 4 minors. The failed tests were for stupid things like going to slow on a NSL road and hesitation on a roundabout.

My mother in law learned to drive in her 40s and failed seven driving tests. Or it might even have been eight.

She did eventually manage to pass on the eighth or ninth attempt, and thankfully hasn't driven since.

I had to do my provisional 2 times, 1st time the mouse didnt work on the computer for the hazard perception test and they couldnt restart it so had to rebook me for a free retest and had to wait a month or two! Grrr they did say i passed the first bit tho! haha

Practical i failed 1st time with 1 Major and 4 minor
I was so nervous, as a week before my test my instructor was taken ill and i was rushing round trying to find another instructor who was free. managed to have 1 lesson before my test but felt wierd driving a car i wasnt used to - was petrol instead of diesel too and ended up stalling a few times on the test.

2nd time i passed with 3 minors, maybe 4 :D back with my old instructor and his car! had to wait a month or 2 tho for my test but was worth it in the end!
my minors were for hesitation and i was quite close to the kurb with the reversing round the corner (luckily didnt go up it haha)

Passed my M/Cycle test, car test, & HGV tests 1st time & not because I'm the worlds best driver!

As the OP alluded too...the biggest cause of failure is nerves, I don't suffer from nerves at all.

It does help if you're not totally carp though ;)

    hi
just thought i would share my story

i started taking lessons in 1987
instructor told my dad i was wasting my money i woulds never drive
(i had probs doing 4 things at once due to car accident when i was 9)

i found a really good instructor in september and we explained to her
    all probs i had

well i passed the test on the 24th of july
i did sit the test 4 times

1st fail was reverse round the corner and also my dad (who didnt know i was sitting my test next day. told me my mum had breat cancer)

2nd fail was approaching a roundabout i was in wrong lane did all the right things mirror signal manover but caused a car to brake. even my instructor thought that was a bit harsh cause the car was speeding

3rd fail was nerves and i just made stupid mistakes

4th time the examiner told me he was pleased to say i had passed and i didnt believe him
    i was gob smacked

so come on everone believe in yourselves
    you can do it
if i can you all can

    kas xx

ps if your in fife and need an instructer pm i will give you contact details of my instructer. she was brilliant

I failed my first test for sailing through an unmarked crossroad, so I can't really argue with that one.

My second test was again an unmarked crossroad, but I slowed down and make a good observation of all available exits before riding on through. The examiner claimed that if he didn't have enough time to check the exits then I wouldn't have either, but that's a matter of opinion.

The third time I got lucky - rather than another bike examiner it was an old duffer following behind me in a car. As soon as I got out to the country roads I tore ahead of him and he couldn't even see if my riding was of standard or not (it was, honest!).

I passed that one with just a single minor for going too slow (built up area - I thought it was an implicit 20 when it wasn't).

I've now had my bike license for 2 years and haven't got any points, and hoping to get my car license in a few months.

Why do young people have so many lessons these days?

Because the driving test is much much much harder than it used to be.
I just failed for the 4th time. I have been told that there is a 34% pass rate in my area, doesn't sound too good to me. I hear of people talking of places with higher pass rates. I wonder if there is any truth in this or is it an urban myth perpetrated by driving schools. At the moment I think i would go anywhere to pass. 3 children and a very expensive bus company are crippling me financially. Any ideas
The pass rate will be more to do with the quality of instructors and students than the examiners, doing it in a town you don't know will just make things worse tbh.

The DSA's "quoatas" are just an excuse people come out with when they fail.

On topic - Past first time with 7 minors after 20 lessons, did Pass Plus a few months later and i'm thinking about IAM soon.

I can't be bothered to read the next 3 pages but I assume the overwhelming answer is that you cannot drive to the required standard ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Can remember taking my third test and being told to slow down (limit dropped to 30 from 40)...don't think it helped when I parked up on double yellows at the end either.

Gave up for a while, started learning again at 21. Felt rubbish when I took my test - had had a tooth out the day before, stalled at a junction and as far as I was concerned was wasting my time. Bit of a shock when he told me I'd passed.
