That's an interesting one. I could understand doing handbrake turns failing you, :rotfl:, but I was told to always use the handbrake when stopped for any more than a certain length of time, primarily because of the brake lights in the face of the driver behind you. I tend not to use the handbrake as much now I've passed anyway :)

That was her point, I can remember clearly her fury all the way home! She said she had never heard anything like it before and apparently she wrote to the test center about it. Im the same though, I dont use the handbrake that much now, put me off for life!!!

I failed mine in 1984 for pulling out of the test centre into the path of a lorry! The examiner had to use the dual controls to stop the car. I hadn't even gone 10 yards and already failed. I was allowed to finish the test but it was a pointless exercise. I passed next time though!
  • Nope.....passed 1st time,
12 lessons then my test......my parents didn't drive so no extra practice.
My then boyfriend paid for the lessons for my 17th birthday.
Couldn't drive his car as couldn't manage his 'Renault 4' dash gear stick!! .......showing my age here
passed my bike test 1st time too.;)
Why do young people have so many lessons these days?

Only reason I started learning was the Halfords BSM vouchers in quick grabit on here a while back which made lessons about £9 an hour as opposed to the usual £23 odd. That was probably the best bargain I have ever got and only wish I bought more at the time to save more money (although I did feel a pratt spending hundreds on vouchers at the time).

I managed to pass first time, but I think the driving instructor held off putting me in for the test for a bit. Dunno if I would have passed sooner but I suppose it's better than paying for a test twice. Driving examiner seemed like a nice bloke and was understanding about it being the first driving test.
  • I started taking lessons in September 2004, late starter I know, failed my theory test twice due to that blasted hazard perception even after practicing for hours each day, passed the proper test first time though.

I went from never having been behind the wheel to fully legal driver in 10 months.

I just failed my driving test yesterday. I stalled my engine and rolled back doing a hill start. Couldn't believe it as I've done that hill on numerous occasions without fail. Gutted. Other than that I had 7 minor faults. So would have passed otherwise.

I'm 37 and trying my test for the first time. I first applied for my Provisional Liscence 20 years ago, but only made the decision to start learning properly in May last year. Not got a car yet so have been having 1 lesson a week with a driving instructor since then.

Put in for another test on 16th March and I'm chomping at the bit to have another go because I know I can do it. _party_

I passed first time, but my best mate failed as he ran somone over on his test! not advisable on your test or at any other time.
  • I've failed my driving test twice now! I'm completely gutted.

1st time I had 7 minors and 2 majors - I banged the curb on reverse round the corner and then I "swan necked" uff!

2nd time I had I major and 8 minors - I apparently cut out in front of someone and they had to slow down. I actually can't remember doing that for the life of me. The examiner said it was a bright yellow car and I couldn't miss it, but somehow I did.

I'm currently trying to find a cancellation for sometime before the changed come in in October, but no luck yet. Hoping to get a date for the next 2 weeks.

Fingers crossed its 3rd time lucky!;)
