I got reverse round corner, turn in the road and emergency stop. In my turn in the road it was also th first time I'd met traffic doing it. Typically I got a car on either side but they were both nice and waited for me!
  • Failed once at 17 for two majors - both times pulling out in front of someone (on the first one a hedge was obstructing the view - the hedge was cut the next blinkin day ).

Having said that on reflection it was a good thing as i was a much better driver by the time of the second test about 1 month later (test went on for about 15 mins; the tester just sat and ate polos!!).

    good luck!

    Nerves!!

I failed first time because of that!

I had to make a right turn just after pulling out of the test station. There were two cars in the junction one going one way and the other the other, and they had stopped to have a chat!!!!!!

I completely lost my nerve after waiting for what seemed an eternity!!! when they finally moved (I did the right thing by waiting) I had completely lost my nerve and felt like I should have done something. we pulled into the new road and the instructor said to stop, so I did - without pulling over, without checking my mirrors or anything!! the rest of the test went fine but needless to say I failed!

My second test was fine, I'd spent ages driving with my boyfriend on L-plates and felt totally in control of a car. At a traffic light junction I had to turn right and was in completely the wrong place, a car then pulled in front of me to turn just to highlight my mistake!!!!! However, I kept calm about it, let the other car go first and off I went.

At the end of the test the instructor said that he knew I knew I was in the wrong place, and dealt with it - he didn't even give me a minor for it!!

I think there are still quite a few instructors out there who are looking for good drivers rather than the points on the test, and understand that sometimes although you might not get something right, are incomplete control and are safe to drive - which I think is the better thing to look for!! Because at the end of the day whilst driving you are going to make mistakes sometimes, and you need to be able to cope with them!

    Good luck with your test!!!

    Hi

NOW I feel nervous. I've not really been thinking too much about when my test is (Tuesday) I'm sure on the morning I will be v nervous.

I feel ready for the test but just feel so sure that I will fail and will be so p****d off with myself if I do. (Just telling myself I will fail then I won't be too disappointed when (if :p ) I do)

Passed the theory first time with flying colours..... I keep telling the instructor I know the theory, just a bit sticky at the practical.

I failed one test, My instructor thought I wasn't ready and wouldn't let me use his car, had to go with a freind and use a really big old Austin Princess :D I didn't want to cancel the test and lose the money, I saw no point in that, I decided it was a waste of money to cancel the test and if I did it at least I would be able to use the test as a practice run and gain experience from it.

Anyway I failed on waiting at a green light because I wanted to go right, I stayed on the white line waiting for the green arrow (trouble was there was no green arrow on those lights :D and I would have been waiting till christmas.) examiner said "don't you think you should be going?" What I should have done was move forward of the white line and wait for a gap in traffic and then turned right.

I'm sure there were numerous other fails included in the same test but I don't remember them. An Austin Princess was a long way different from a Rover Metro.

First time I failed for two serious reasons - one was because the tester thought I was going to try to enter a roundabout when there were cars and vans in the way and slammed his foot down on the brake and because I drove too far towards the middle of the road down a narrow street with a car coming in the opposite direction. The second time was because I came out a T junction too fast, failed to turn the wheel sufficiently and went smack into the kerb on the opposite side of the road.

On both occasions I had numerous minor faults - at least twenty.

On the third occasion, six years later, I passed with a mere (for me) four minors - "nothing to worry about", said the tester.

I found that on the first two occasions the testers were quite unfriendly and abrupt. I forgot the "keep going straight on unless I say otherwise" thing on one occasion and had to ask which direction to go. The reply I got was condescending to say the least.

On the third occasion, the tester was much more friendly and open. We had turned down a side road which was blocked by a lorry. The instructor told me to reverse into the entrance of a building site and turn around. He said that he'd count that as my reverse around a corner, even though it wasn't a proper reverse and I was nowhere near any kerbs or anything. I treated it like a proper manoeuvre - plenty of looking in mirrors and the like.

I was 18 when I took my first two tests and 24 when I finally passed (I stopped driving for four years to go to university). I am glad I waited to take my test again, as I was a lot more mature and calm about the whole thing (though I was still very nervous - I remember driving along a road with my foot literally shaking on the accelerator.

i failed because i wasnt turning the steering wheel properly and wasnt breaking quick enough. I blame it on being 8 mths pregnant at the time - wasnt physically possible for me! Passed 6 weeks after bump was gone! Good luck next time! :j

    I failed my test today.

7 minor points but 3 serious.

1st serious was I took too long between doing observations and moving off on hill start and didn't notice white van attempting to overtake!!!!

Other 2 were for observations after that. (I knew I had failed and just fell to pieces I think :o )

Ah well Hopefully next time :o
