I pressed F9, then had to confirm something, which I did, and now it has apperently adjusted time & date.
Just come back to it and is giving me my wallpaper etc (Pic of my eldest son...
) so it looks as though the initial problem may now be fixed... :j
Unfortunatally it is now showing the 'Power surge on hub Port' message again in the bottom right hand corner of the PC.
I'm having to wiggle the mouse connection to reset, as requested, but it isn't working ATM.
The mouse & keyboard remain inactive unless I wiggle the connections...
I'm off to get some sleep shortly as most of you will be doing, so will tackle it again in the morning.
Many many thanks for all your help at the moment guys...................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
I may be going out on a limb here, but I think it's an electrical problem. How old is your 'old' PC?0

It's pretty old, I've had it for 3 years now, and my friend had it previously for quite a few years, she has unfortunatlely passed away so I can't ask her. Her son did reinstall/rebuild things for me to be able to use it, but he's in Afganistan (Royal Marine Commadando) fighting, so I'm not really able to contact him...................................... Well... unless the cause is something obvious like a metal burr shorting a connection somewhere, it's time to start replacing things until the problem goes away. You could mitigate the problem by disabling the USB ports entirely, but this is hardly an ideal solution.
Unfortunately the only way to narrow down the problem is to have a working duplicate of each part, so you might as well get it over with and replace the entire computer.

It's not as simple as replacing the computer really, as I have most of my pics stored on there, and as i mentioned earlier, when there is a problem with my laptop, the AOL techies get me back on the desktop PC to rectify the faults with my laptop, as all the password info etc is stored on the desktop PC!
Don't ask me why or how, but that is the situation I'm afraid, and when my eldest son bought me the laptop at Christmas, AOL sent me the wireless router etc, but NOT the disc to download AOL onto the laptop...
Hence, why it was all done over the phone via the desktop!
Gosh... I hope that makes some sense!................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0 -
- You can take the HDD and stick it in a new PC, giving you access to all your stuff.
- If you've got a router, you don't need that horrible AOL software anyway!

Crikey, I must sound so stupid...
