PC Frozen - Help please!

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this.

Earlier in the year My old PC had a power surge on hub port problem, which FM loaner helped me to fix the fault.
Everything was fine until my youngest son wanted to charge his iPod, as soon as he plugged it in it made the same noise as earlier in the year, so I quickly restarted it.
When it came back on I pressed F2 as loaner had previously explained to me, but this time the screen is just frozen with a message at the top saying...

AMIBIOS System Configuration (C) 1985-2003, American Megatrends inc.,

Main Processor : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU

There are lots more thing like Math Processor - Floppy Drive A: -Floppy Drive B - Display Type - Amibios Date - External Cache DDR at DIMM(s) - etc.

I don't have a clue what to do as I can't get it to respond to F1 or F2.
The mouse is lit up, so presumably working, the keyboard light is on, but the mouse won't let me click anywhere at all.

Please can anyone help me with this?

Many thanks...

The mouse won't respond until the operating system has loaded; you're basically limited to keyboard operation until then. I hate to start with the obvious, but have you tried switching it off then on again without touching the keyboard?

Hiya Tanglefoot, thank you for the reply...
Yes, I've turned it on and off manually, also did a restart several times.
It just comes on again with the same message mentioned above.

I'm not too sure if the keyboard will work as I've pressed the F1 & F2 buttons, but nothing changes.

Many thanks for helping me... :A

Can you copy what it says on screen, word for word?

Why would going into the system BIOS setup screen (normally F1, F2 or Del) help solve this problem? or am I missing something here??

Charging an Ipod via the USB port? if you don't use one of the USB 2.0 ports (generally at the back of the PC) you will have issues, because only the USB 2.0 ports are capable of supplying the nessecary current (5volts at 500mA).
Alternatively if you have a USB hub plugged in and you connect via that, the combined devices attached cannot exceed the 500mA limit of the original port. This would/could cause damage to your PCs motherboard or powersupply.

I can, but it'll take me a while as there is rather a lot, so please bear with me!

I suspect what we're (not) looking at looks something like this.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean by "going into the system BIOS setup screen help solve this problem"

That is what I currently see on the screen since my son plugged the iPod in, and I then resarted manually.

I'm not very techie minded so please reply in terms which I can understand! Many thanks...

Similar, but nothing like the same wording. I'll try to type it on to the tread now.

The Basic Input/Output System is an important software component without which the computer would not function. It's contained within a small EEPROM chip on the motherboard. Pressing certain keys on your keyboard during the Power-on self-test allows access to its configuration menu.

For the moment, this is almost certainly irrelevant: if plugging in the iPod triggered a hard reset messing around in the BIOS is unlikely to help matters.
