The PC connects to the wireless router, not the other way round.

    Modem -> Router -> PC/Laptop

If the PC or Laptop go, the router still works, just as though you can use your laptop if your PC is turned off. (if this isn't the case say so!)

    ----

The coin shapped battery can easily just be taken out, leave it out for about half an hour (not sure about the time limit, a couple of minutes could actually do it). Put it back in, and turn computer on again.

Make sure the computer is completely off, unplgged, before taking the battery out.

You can try using a coin to take it out but its better if you just try and pull it out using your fingers.

Just seen your edit of post with the diagram!

You may find it easier to lay the PC down on its side then. Just do it gently when putting it down on its side.

Um but yeh just pull it out. Its the same as a watch battery. If you can use your fingers then yeh use them.

If theres a clip I am not sure.... you may just need to push that in whilst taking it out.

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you don't snap anything it will be fine.

Oh my God... It seems to have worked... :j

That message has now gone, and it now says...

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU, 1.80GHz

    Del:Setup F8:Boot Menu F12:Network boot

    CMOS/GPNV ChecksumBad

    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue

What shall I do next please, as the keyboard isn't lit, nor the mouse, but the mouse and keyboard lights up if I move the mouse connection slightly.

Many many thanks to you guys who've been helping me with this... :A

    F2 it. See what happens.

It could mean some of your DVD drives stop working as its just loading normal default settings but it should load up normally. (touch wood)

A Blue box has appeared now, it says...

    Select First Boot Device

    IDE-0 : Samsung SP0411N

    CD/DVD-0 : HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8162B
    CD/DVD-1 : HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120b

[Up/Dn] Select [Return] Boot [ESC] cancel

Not sure what to press as I don't want anything to go wrong... :o

Ok booting. Ill explain this becase you should be able to understand it.

You have an operating system on your computer (XP, Vista or whatever).

Now when you have PCs you usually have to install this operating system from disc onto the drive inside the PC.

It is currently asking where you want to load the PC up.

Assuming you have got an operating system (which you should have), the drive inside the PC should have it on, but it shouldn't usually ask.

IDE-0 <-- the drive inside your PC, load it from that. See what happens. It could be your drive which is !!!!!!ed (which will have files etc.etc. on it which could be baaaaad)

Many thanks for the info...

Sorry if I sound rather dim Lokolo, but I guess I am where technical things are concerned re computer set ups etc... :o

The bit you said is actually highlighted in yellow, but how do I select it as my option please? As in, re the mouse or keyboard.

Ok you can use the up down left right arrow keys to go places.

To choose the option it says [Return], which is the Enter key. (picture of it is here: http://www.diva-arts.org.uk/images/Return%20key.jpg)

Many thanks for your patience... :A

I did it OK, but it has now brought me back to the original problem, with the message I posted in post 11 of the thread... :(

Shall I turn it off manually, or will that not do any good?
