Afternoon all :hello:
Lillibet - that seven bird roast sounds fabulous! One of these days I'll be that adventurous in the kitchen, but I need a bit more practice and confidence firstIn Borough Market there's a butcher there that sells 3 and 4 bird ready-to-roasts and they cost upwards of £50  I hope today's going well, and sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question, but did you choose St George's Day for your son George's baptism deliberately?
Katgoddess - Happy Birthday :bdaycake:
Jo and Posh with your unintentionally violent bedfellows - you have reminded me of one of the reasons I prefer being single
Vicky - three cheers for Dilbert! Introducing him to us lot has obviously had the desired effect!
johanne - must try that cake sometime, sounds delish
Well I'm in my regular Sunday afternoon vegetating mode, watching the snooker. I was out of the house by 8:15 this morning to make sure I got into Central London on time for choir practice (normally I can leave between 8:30 and 8:45 and have a choice of trains and buses, but the Marathon cuts off the bus routes in South East London so I got an early train to be on the safe side - also, trains very busy cos one of the start points for the race is at Blackheath which is on my line). Despite a minor delay I arrived at Charing Cross with 45mins to spare before having to be at church in Marble Arch, so despite the damp weather I decided to walk "the scenic route" - basically heading in a general north-westerly direction and pottering through the streets of Mayfair. Discovered some pretty garden squares I never knew existed - definitely better than catching the bus up Oxford Street!
My little sis has been running the marathon but I have been unable to contact her - haven't seen her for months and had sent her some texts last week inviting her to meet up while she's in London - no reply - and then a good luck message early this morning - again no reply. Eventually discovered from my mum that she has just changed her mobile number and not given me the new one  which would explain it. So eventually I phoned and left her a voice message. (She's not into telling me stuff. As other posters have said today about their own relatives, she's had a boyfriend for a while and I wouldn't have known he existed if my dad hadn't mentioned it! And then there's the small matter of the boob job she has very plainly had, but won't admit to) I need to get her a birthday card, she'll be 25 next Monday.
Popped into Tesco for ingredients of a carrot cake a la catowen. Might do it tomorrow rather than today - I only have one cake tin the right shape, and there's half a banana loaf in there at the moment  Also managed to pick up some lamb mince reduced to half price (99p) - hmmm, I have a recipe somewhere for a lamb pilaff which I haven't made for ages, it's very nice and I'm pretty sure I have nearly all the ingredients.
Breakfast was leftover jam sandwich from yesterday
Lunch - didn't fancy proper lunchy food so had a chunk of banana cake!
Dinner - no idea. Either fish pie or sausage casserole (both just need reheating, but will need to do peas to go with the fish or rice to go with the casserole).
Edit: just had text from elusive sis saying oops, sorry, thought I'd told everybody the new phone no.Operation Get in Shape

Hello all
Happy birthdays, (((hugs))) and christening good wishes as appropriate
I had an attack of the 'snowy owls' last nightWas woken by DS2 at 3.30, managed to fall back asleep but was woken again at 4am by the tin rattling around the BM. After I'd sorted that - there was no way I could get back to sleep again. I was going to get up and watch tv whilst doing the remaining mountain of ironing - but didn't. Just watched tv
Managed to get another hour before DS1 came in.
Haven't done a huge lot today. DS1 had to go to his St George's Day parade - so I've been wandering around town sporting my rosePopped into Woolies and got b'day pressie for DS1's friend for next week (1/2 price) and also a HP film :0 Went to Tesco and managed only to buy the milk, yoghurts and bananas I went in for :j (Did look at the yellow stickered stuff, but as I have broccoli in the fridge and that's all they had - left it)
It's a gorgeous day here - will pop the last load from WM on the line for a couple of hours and think about tea. I'm not inspired by anything - but then we have all just had a creme egg
Have a lovely day - what's left of it.

Thanks for your messages everyone.
I went out for a quiet lunch with my friends at a restaurant in Bexley. I got excited when I saw a sign saying "Carvery 2 for £10" but alas it was only vaild Mon-Sat. My friend's daughter who is nearly 3 cheered me up no end. She is tri lingal and spend the time chattering away in a mixture of english, spanish and arabic. As she was in a highchair her meal was free
i brought the Lonely Planet Blue List so am hopefully going to find somewhere good to go on holiday this year.
Homemade Shepherds pie for tea.
Hope everyone has a nice St George's Day.0 -
johanne - thank you for the recipe, not only sounds good but easy to make
nutty - you will have made today a lot easier to bear for your mum, just knowing you have such a thoughtful family gets you through, i couldnt have done it without mine and i am glad to hear your friends mum has improved so much0 -
Aft'noon all!
How I love weekends. Ive been to Ikea which was massively busy, which also didnt have the fabric in that I specifically went in for. Ive a feeling its the end of a line so I wont get any now - boo!!
I did buy two small rose bushes that were on offer at 2.99 each, in that lovely deep red colour, and two wooden boxes to plant them in. Ive decided to put them on the windowsill outside of the bedroom, as they are fairly deep and needed cheering up with something nice. They look very pretty! I also got some more pillow protectors and a red basket for the bathroom window as im sick of seeing loads of bottles!
Ive been to see my friend for an hour this afternoon too for a bit of a whinge, and im feeling a bit better now. She is feeling a bit like I am at the moment, post uni blues - and feeling like life is just slipping by with not a lot to show for it. Im going to get a plan together this afternoon, action, not moaning, is the key! I think ill do some ironing, put some loud music on, and have a think about life and what i want from it etc.
Anyway - im off - ive still got to file the paperwork!

Ooo have a while before the Banana bread comes out of the oven so thought i'd log on for a few mo's.
Twink - thanks for the kind words. I too think that taking mum out did her a lot of good and me and OH too!
Have just made 2 batches of the shepherds pie base before the banana bread which will do us for tea tomorrow and again in a few weeks. Makes much more sense to me (at last) doing it on a lazy Sunday afternoon - than a manic evening where we don;t sit down for tea until 9pm
OH is out in the garden weeding, planting (a cutting from 2 years ago that has finaly sprouted good - a Snowberry)
Hoping to do some muffins and possibly cookies after the BB comes out so that I can take some to work tomorrow - the team I PA for have hit targets all last week so they deserve something nice!
Katgoddess - glad you had a lovely day, birthdays are meant to be specialno matter how young or old!
Right back to the oven!
Have a good evening all
L xIt's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -

evening!
Well its been a right wash out here in London today, rained all day!
Been to recycling dump this morning (exciting). Finally sorted out cupboard under stairs, found some of my old LP's and 12" singles (younger MSErs please dont laugh at this point! I'm really not that old!!) Gosh it was great seeing them and remembering the good times and tunes that I used to like! Ive got a Barry Manilow Picture Disc LP, and a Pink Vinyl Elvis Hits LP  - does anyone else remember picture discs/coloured singles etc!!! :rotfl:
I have definately got to get a new stylus for my record deck then gonna have a good old bop around the living room  - my DS1 should enjoy some of my 70's/80's 12" singles! half of them have been remixed now anyway!
Oh my god, I'm definately having a midlife crisis:eek:
DS1 is v.happy cos Liverpool are in FA Cup Final :footie: (dont ask why londoner supports northern team?) but my DH supports West Ham - cup final day is gonna be tense in our household!! one of them is gonna end up upset.
VickyA: way to go!
Katgoddess: glad you enjoyed your lunch.
Bargainrzl: any chance of that lamb pilaff recipe? Ive got loads of lamb in freezer and dont want to make another shephers pie!
and how did you sis do in Marathon? did she do a good time? must have been hard in this rain! Ive applied 3 times now but not been accepted, DH has done it once.
right ironing beckons!
have a good evening all.0 -

Eeek yes I do!! I've got a couple of absolutely fab picture disc ones - a Bat out of Hell one, and a Bruce Springsteen one. Absolutely perfect condition too (or at least they were ten years ago which was the last time I looked at them). I really, really must get a stereo with a turntable on it.
Shez, if you're having a mid-life crisis then so am I. It's fun and unpredictable ha ha what a laugh...
So, back in the real world of SnowyOwl, I have only got one of my dimwit essays done. Oh I despair of myself, I really really do! I'm going to start it tonight, at least get a plan of it set out, then no choice but do it on Tuesday evening even if I have to sit up all night long.
It was a lovely sunny day here, unfortunately totally wasted on me with my nose stuck in books. Oh roll on next weekend....
Bye for now

Ive got an urge to listen to it now!
