Kat I'm so sorry to hear your news - I lost all of my grandparents before I was 14 and I really miss their wisdom sometimes.
Ivyleaf I am down to 2 now, one is seven and the other is 3 and a bit. We lost one just before we got married 5 years ago and then lost another 3 years ago, she was 22 when she died and blind so we were sort of expecting that one. Can't get another now as DH has really become allergic to them and it's hard on him having the 2 around.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Katgoddess, I'm sorry to hear about your Nan. While there is release from any suffering for her those left behind will miss her I am sure.
Well, I've been for the chop at the local hairdresser and they did a v.good job of it. It's a wee bit shorter than anticipated, but possibly this is because she put so much curl into it it kinda sprung upwards by an inch or two. It's nice, I really like it. However sitting looking at myself in the mirror was probably the most uncomfortable thing...ugh what a sight. My middle sort of bunched up into big thick rings, like I had a couple of those life saving ring things on under my top...sorry if you're eating. I am definitely going to have to do something about this. I've probably got about four stone to go...Ancasta I am so jealous and I really do appreciate how much effort and single-minded thinking it has taken for you to achieve your success. I've been kidding myself I can lose weight by myself, but I've wised up to the fact that the diy approach doesn't work for me. I need guidance and cajoling/support from other people, so I think I'll be heading off to Curves soon (not WW - I had lost five stone with them many years ago, but I think all that queuing and those meetings would drive me potty now). I had been telling myself I can't afford Curves, but really I can't afford not to take action...my weight is all around my middle, I am a (very over-ripe) apple shape and that of course invites all sorts of heart problems. So Curves is the next thing on the agenda, and goodbye OS scones, carrot cake and other comforting and delicious goodies.
Twink - perhaps if you have a discussion with one of the veterinary nurses about your difficulty in getting Grumpy to take his tablets they might have a few strategies you hadn't thought of before. With Henry I used to almost lose a hand, but somehow the vet nurses (rather than the vet!) could manage his annoyance with minimum fuss.
Frizz - glad you're having a lovely birthday. You did the right thing avoiding Bluewater when you had good weather to enjoy, that sort of place is a wet weather venue definitely.
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

Just got back from "celebrating" OH mums life and birthday. We had a lovely mass this morning which was also a memorial for a man who had been buried on Thursday - the priest, whom we call Father Jim, was describing how this couple had met - at the salsa dancing 8 years ago when they where 80 - he was 88 when he died that brought a smile to our faces. When back SIL house for a couple of hours for some breakfast then up to the cemetary - where we played one of her favourite "footie " songs (she was an ardent Celtic supporter). We then had a lovely lunch at 2pm - 22 of us (9 kids) which SIL's paid for.. if was fun in the cars - all the nieces and nephews where playing musical cars - noone wanted to go in their own car. We had our youngest nephew - he makes his first communion in 4 weeks time..he looks so grown up since we last saw them.
just going for a browse now
have a lovely evening all
Take care

She was a old lady and was very ill so it is really a relief. Esp for my mum and aunt who were looking after her.
I was working today but am planning a quiet weekend except for going out for lunch for my birthday tomorrow. I will be lighting a candle for her tonight.
So sorry to hear about your Nan Katgoddess. I admire how you're able to see that it's a release & although sad for you & your family, it's an end to her suffering. :grouphug:0 -
Katgoddess - ((((hugs)))) from me too. Having lost my father within the last year, in a way you can see that it is a release from any pain and suffering and for that you are glad, but it's still hard and you miss them so.
Take care

snowy owl, thanks for your advice, never thought of vet nurse, i always got round it before by getting them the antibiotic on long acting injection, but i cant do it with this one seemingly0 -
Sorry about your Nan KG.
I planted out my mint into the salvaged-from-the-skip bucket today.
We went to Iceland (the shop) to see what there was for tea tonight as the cupboard was nearly bare and came home with nothing as everything looked so uninspiring.I ended up in making home made tomato soup for lunch ,which we ate with the remains of yesterdays loaf and big thick HM burgers ,chips and fried eggs for tea. The cupboard wasn't as bare as it looked!
I treated the boards for my deep bed (still to be made) by mixing paraffin and old sump oil.It is safe for the plants and it looks much better than I thought it would, brown and darker grained, rather than black and grimey.OH was treating some boards for a trailer he is making, using bought wood preservative and said mine looked much better.Well back to my gardening books TTFN0 -
