  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRIZ HEAD

A gorgeous day here today. 2 loads blowing on the line. Have spent 2 hours gardening, have popped on here for a break as back has started twinging.

Can't believe the change in weather, was cold and wet yesterday now blue skies and warm!!.

Hoping to make some fat free banana muffins later with help from DD and HM burgers and wedges with corn on the cobs for tea.

    Have a good day all.

    Afternoon all! :hello:

I didn't read the thread yesterday so hope everyone's okay, though sounds as if poor Tootles stepped in something nasty!

Moggins Your way of giving tablets to a cat works with one of mine, but the other one is very big and I can't manage to hold him - I crushed his tablets and mixed them with a little bit of freshly cooked coley when it was his mealtime, then gave him the rest of his food - it seemed to work pretty well and he got most of the madicine down him, made a good recovery. How many cats have you got? I've got two - mother and son - qute old now, 16 and 15 but I hope we'll have them for a couple more years yet.

Thanks to those who reminded me on another thread that Rochester was well worth a visit - we hadn't been there for ages, but went yesterday (which was why I didn't read the Daily Thread yesterday - I was too kn@ckered by the time we got home!). :p We went in the Cathedral and deciphered the inscriptions on some of the old tombs, and I bought a CD of music played in the Cathedral's organ (each to their own!). We enjoyed looking in the interesting shop windows, and pottering in the secondhand bookshops. I found a novel I wanted in the Backroom Bookshop, and a book I've been looking for for several years in the rabbit warren that's Baggins Books. It's about the Home Front in WW2, "How We Lived Then" by Norman Longmate. I borrowed it a couple of times from the library where we used to live, then when we moved here the library didn't have it, and it's out of print - I wasn't even hunting for it, just noticed it on the shelf as I walked past, so I'm really chuffed :j We bought some lovely pasties to bring home for tea as I knew I'd be too tired to cook! Altogether a really nice day out.

    Best wishes

    ivyleaf xx

Just popping in while I down a cuppa. Its been a baking frenzy here, today.

I got the BM working early with one oat & linseed loaf and one just oat loaf. DH then got going in the kitchen with the baking of a Victoria Sponge - which for some unknown reason burned beyond redemption. So, he quickly whipped up another one and in his haste to put them in the oven, managed to get one tin slightly caught up on the edge of the other - and as the contents liquified, the cake mix ran out and all over the cooker bottom - sending up more smoke signals!! Poor thing .. he was starting to have a bit of a Tootles Day. So, I whipped out the tins and got the mix off the bottom of the oven by wiping with a wet tea towel, cleaned the mix off the two shelves it had dripped through, and put the lot back in the oven. It baked reasonably okay - but didn't rise much, having been taken out and put back in, and the slanty one burned on the edge. So we had two flat, odd shaped sponge cakes. Then I had a bright idea - trifle!

So, one orange jelly and a tin of peach slices from the storecupboard later, its waiting to have its custard and cream added. :T Old style thrift saves the day!! :rotfl:

In the meantime, I've made some American potato salad and DH cooked off some chipolatas, the dough for bread rolls is on its way in the BM and it looks as though our High Tea has been saved. :T

    What a palaver!!!! :D

Oh Ivyleaf - if I'd known, you could have come over for a cup of tea!! We're about 10 minutes in the car from there.

Oh Poshpaws, what a shame! Never mind, maybe next time if you're not busy? Many thanks for the kind thought. :A BTW the trifle sounds yummy - worth making on purpose!

Just having a quick browse whilst waiting for the WM to finish.
Been shopping bought a b'day pressie, found a skirt and top in the sale!! Foundation from boots with that a free no7 mascara worth £9.50 so I was chuffed with that. This morning the electrician wired my garden lights up, just now I was moving my mega heavy hanging baskets and fell over and sliced my knuckle open (ouch) and I said a few choice words as I fell!
Sun is still warm here sat in shorts so it can't be bad for April

Thanks everyone for the birthday messages. Weather is absolutely gorgeous here today, so much so decided not to go to Bluewater, much too nice to spend in the car and indoor shopping.

TM and PoshPaws, you are right about the sun getting stronger. During the Easter Hols, I spent the afternoon in the garden, and even though it was not a particularly hot day, I burnt my face :o , despite having Factor 15 in my facial moisturiser.

Gonna stick to my Johnsons Holiday Skin lotion. :D

    Have a great day everyone.

My Nan died yesterday morning. :( She was a old lady and was very ill so it is really a relief. Esp for my mum and aunt who were looking after her. unlove.gifrose.gif I was working today but am planning a quiet weekend except for going out for lunch for my birthday tomorrow. I will be lighting a candle for her tonight.

At the Morrisons where I work they have had a ReLay on some of the shelves and are now selling Caribbean ethnic foods, including Cornmeal. :j I have brought a packet and will now be able to make some cornbread. I also raided the drinks and brought a grapefruit soft drink called Ting and a kiddies drink called Kola Champion. I passed on buying the Dragon Stout  and Milo. (Thought that was Aussi?) I googled Dragon Stout and apparently you can make a bread with it. I picked up a loaf of Hard Dough bread in the reduced section for 15p (was 99p) which is very nice and a bit sweet.

Have sold a few things on Amazon and Cafepress this week so very happy with that.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend xxx

Twink the way I give tablets to my cat is a bit weird but it really works and is over and done in seconds. I kneel on the floor with the cat between my legs and with her head pointing towards my knees, then I pull her head up slightly and open her jaws with one hand, with the other hand I push the tablet into her mouth and as far back as I can get it, I then hold her head up for a couple of seconds and stroke her throat, this forces her to swallow the tablet. Once you've got the routine going it takes literally seconds and the cat doesn't even know what's hit it :D

I do the same with mine. They do seem to have an uncanny knack of knowing when I am about to give tablets - and disappear.
