  • I don't really know anything about any of them except what I've researched online. Try looking at skywarrantycompare.com, see what they say. Of course, opinion is divided whether or not you need a warranty on your Sky equipment. It does have its good points in spite of what many people say. Particularly if you are on a fixed income and/or cannot get up to your satellite dish yourself to repair it.
  • I had cover with Satcover for my satellite equipment. I cancelled the DD earlier this year however they presented a new DD under the name of Play and took £72. Fortunately I noticed it the day it was taken and the bank recalled the payment. I instructed my bank, First Direct, to notify me if any further DD's were set up on my bank account. They have just informed me that a company called DOCUMETRIC - SOMETHING CORP have tried to set up a DD on my account. The company DOCUMETRIC are based in Rotherham and set up DD's for companies and had set this up for SOMETHING CORP which have the same phone number as Satcover. Several attempts to get through to Satcover but only been able to get to listen to music.
  • They most certainly are still trading. Still taking money from customers. They are not paying there staff at the moment as they are saying they have no monies i there accounts. They still have a sales team ringing poor people up and taking there card details. They are linked with Something Comunications so dont have anything to do with them either.
  • Have just come across this forum when researching SatCover Ltd. and am appalled! I have been a customer of Satellite Direct or SatCover for some years. When I first took Sky I was immediately contacted by someone from the Company and since their offer of a maintenance contract looked good I subscribed. In 2006? my Sky system developed a fault and I made a claim. I recall that I had trouble in finding them since I had lost their helpline number. When I did find it there was no reply which worried me. I contacted the local Trading Standards department and they found them by visiting their premises and gave me a phone number to try. I got through and was told that their number had changed, there had been internal changes in the company since the partners had fallen out with each other and they had moved offices. They had omitted to tell their customers about the change of number.

Once contacted, their service was excellent and it must have cost them a substantial amount to arrange for a local contractor to carry out repairs. My box was completely refurbished and has worked perfectly since. I have had no occasion to contact them since then.

I had noticed that my DD monthly payments increased from time to time without the required written notice but thought nothing of it since the increases were reasonable. Last month (July 2009) I noticed that the payment reference on my DD had changed to PLAY... from SATCOV... and was described as an "Initial Payment". The numbers which formed part of the reference were the same. I queried this with my Bank and was told that the DD reference was the the same and it was OK to continue paying it as far as they were concerned.

On checking my Bank Statement online today I find that no payment at all was taken this month (August) on the usual date and none has been taken up to today's date.

Needless to say, having regard to all the posts on this forum, I will be stopping my DD and trying to contact the Company on Tuesday! I have checked both Company's details with Companies House and they are both being described as "Active" and have filed their accounts in good time. All very strange.

Satellite Direct has its Head Office in London. Satcover's registerred office is 168 Church Street Hove East Sussex BN3 2DL but its credit control office seems to be in Ford, Arundel West Sussex as shown in one of the earlier threads.

I am making further enquires and will keep you informed.
  • Forgot to mention that Sky has a warranty/maintenace plan in collaboration with Domestic & General. Go to 'skyprotect/com/official'

I am thinking seriously about taking cover with them. Does anyone else have any experience of them?

I have cover with D&G for my cooker and have had to use them a couple of times when it's broken. I've not had any problem with them at all.
  • A relative has recently had a spurious debit card payment taken by Satplan (0844 8002791). We are unable to ascertain whether this was due to a telephone call to the person involved or due to personal details being acquired by other means. As there is only one Google search result for this business and telephone number (not on MSE: see WhoCallsMe? website), could this be another, most recent manifestation of a business which seems to have had several different identities in the past? Anyone had a similar experience with debit card payments and a biz called Satplan?

Hi alwrites. I did a whois search on the domain name which reveals a company called Microtech Limited who are based in the channel islands, so they dont appear to be connected with Satcover, but still sound very dubious all the same. Hope you are successful in recovering your money.

I have just phoned the number for Satcover Ltd (0871 6641400) and the automated answer was "Hello thank you for calling The Something Group,to improve our service to you the office is closed for 15 minutes for staff training"!!! What!!! I found a DD for £65 taken out of my bank today and it has taken me over my overdraft limit so I'll get a huge charge too grrr. I went to my building society (Nationwide) to find out what it was and the only information they could give me was the address of the company, not much help, but I found the phone number after a bit of a search on the internet. Incidently I phoned 15 minutes later and the message is still the same. Help.

Invoke the Direct Debit Guarantee with the bank, they will refund you and if you ask cancel the direct debit. Don't stand for any nonsense from Nationwide they have to refund you under the industry wide scheme. If you never authorised the direct debit mandate in the first place you should also get your charges back.
  • I was contact by SatCover back in June to renew my subscription which I did by creditcard, when asked if she could read me the Terms & Conditions or put them in the post I requested a postal copy , which has not yet turned up.
I noticed an entry on my creditcard statement this month for Liquidated Asset Mngmt - which is a furniture company in Portsmouth for £99. |It turns out they are in the process of merging/taking over SatCover.
I then noticed online on my recent creditcard transactions another £99 to Something, another name for SatCover.
The creditcard company are no in the process of looking into this but it worries me that my card details PLUS my security number must be held on file and passed from one company to the other.
    Will; advice outcome when known.
