Another thing you may do to stop them taking money from your bank is to log on daily and check your Direct Debits. This company set up the Direct Debit on my account on Friday 19th June and the money was deducted yesterday, 23rd. If you take a note of your list of DDs you will see the SatCovLtd Direct Debit at the bottom of the list. I am checking mine twice a day from now on and will cancel it immediately to stop any payments going out.

EXACTLY the same thing happened to me.
  • I am absolutely livid. Husband answered the phone 2 nights ago and person on other end said they were from sky tv. He handed me the phone as I normally deal with all the things like electricity companies and phone companies etc. Woman on other end said that my satellite insurance was due to finish and would I like to do £6 a month. I informed her that I do not have a sky system and that we are cable. She just cut me off...charming. I said to my hubby, that that was a scam in the making. I had an inkling that I should check my bank account and Lo and behold, £6 taken from my account from SATCOV. I have never been with them, but was with satellite direct (uk) ltd about a year ago, but stopped them, obviously no longer needed satellite cover. I have sent satellite direct a pretty curt email threatening to go to my bank, trading standards and the police if they don't repay me. Will be going to the bank tomorrow to close my account. Can't be having this. I work bloody hard for my money and don't expect some scum to take it from me when I haven't offered it freely. God am I MAD!!!!!!!

Anyone know where I stand legally on them using my details?
I'm wondering if I should get the bank to change all my bank account numbers so I can be assured of this not happening again?

I have just sent the following email to Trading Standards. Both my local branch and the west sussex branch. Thanks other posters for the advice.
    Dear Sir or Madam,

Yesterday I was doing my end of month banking and I noticed a direct debit that had been taken out of my account on 23/06/09 which I did not recognise. I have chased it up via the bank and it's a direct debit for £6 from a company called SATCOVER. They seem to be one of these satellite warranty companys that ring all the time on sky's behalf and offer extended warrenty on your dish/box etc. Now I think this was something that was taken out at the beginning of our sky contract about 5/6 years ago, which I cancelled after 1 month as it's not something we want or need.

I have definitely not since agreed to anything, signed anything, heard from or spoken to this company... yet they took money without my knowledge this month. Surely this is an illegal action by them?

My bank (Nationwide) have been excellent and have cancelled the direct debit. Also I was in the bank for different reasons today so I spoke with someone who has assurred me that they will chase it up on my behalf to get this money back.

After first speaking to my bank and being told the direct debit was somehow related to Sky Digital, I rang Sky and was passed the number for "Dom & General" (08444810444)
However after speaking to this company and giving the reference number I was given the phone numbers for SATCOVER as it was a payment taken by them. The phone numbers I have are: 08702245777, 08716641400, 08716641402,
I have tried calling all of the numbers that I have for this company, but after following the automated system It just rings constantly.

After a small amount of online research there seem to be other people also having a similar problem with this company at the moment, some for much larger monetry amounts. Also the lady serving in my local Nationwide branch also recalled the name from a query by another customer. It would seem that a large amount of people have been affected by this company taken money from accounts with no authorisation whatsoever and I would be grateful if it is something you could look into.
The address that I have found for this company is: Sat Cover Limited, Imprium House, FordLanr, Ford, ARUNDEL, West Sussex, BN180DF.

    Yours sincerly,

For anyone bothered about reclaiming bank charges bcause of this can I offer the following advice. Satcover recently claimed from a dormant account leaving me with a £35 charge. I complained to Consumer Direct (formerly Trading Standards) who issued a complaint number. They instructed me contact the fraud team at the bank. After the bank took 10 minutes to find the number I rang and gave them the background to the case and the complaint number and they agreed to refund all charges.
The next day I received a phone call about a problem with the direct debit for my satelite cover (note they did not say Sky cover). When I asked for the name of the company they slammed the phone down - be warned! I think this proves this company is nothing but a bunch of con artists who know exactly what they are doing.
  • I have not and have never had a policy with these people and they have taken £6 from my account, without authority. I don't know how they have my Bank details!!

I phoned my Bank and asked them to make an indemnity claim but have been told that, if they don't get the money back I will have to pay. Why? I didn't authorise this transaction.

The telephone numbers for this company 08716 641400 and 08702 245777, although ringing out with noone answering yesterday, are now disconnected!!! Oops have they been found out finally. This is monstrous!

for those whose bank say they can't stop them setting up another direct debit - my bank have said they have put a warning note on the account not to set up or accept a direct debit from them without first contacting us - so it may be worth going back to your bank on this
I have also emailed consumer direct

I am sorry too that so many people are having trouble with their banks i like you found the bank very helpful and they also have put a warning note on my account that this direct debit is not to be set up. Just an update though, it seems it isnt only affecting consumers, my daughter in law used to work for them and they have done the same to her using her previous bank details and she never had any cover, just worked for them.

Having started this thread, i am glad to have brought this to peoples attention. These people have already been on watchdog and i think we should inform them. I already have, there is a facility to tell them about them even though they are not back on television yet but it could help thousands of other people.
In a way we are the lucky ones because we have found out about this but there are a lot of people who dont check their bank accounts or indeed this sort of site.
These people need to be stopped, i dont believe this has been a computer error, i think they know exactly what they have done and as previously stated they have even taken money from people who used to work for them and never had cover of any kind. I dread to think how much money they have got away with.

I have had £65 taken out of my bank account from Satcover. I had cancelled a direct debit ages ago but they have reinstated it and taken the money out withut my consent. They have done this once before to me a few years ago but they did refund the money, after telling me it was an admin error.

Everytime I have tried to call them I receive a recorded message telling me that all of their lines are busy but to hold on. I have sent an e-mail but have not received a reply. The fax number that I have for them is dead.

I had spoken to somone called John from Satcover a few months ago to confirm that I no longer require their services. He assured me that they would not take any more money from my account.

To claim the money back from the Halifax I need to complete a Direct Debit Indemnity form. I have been asked to provide them with a contact name, otherwise this cannot be completed. DOES ANYONE HAVE A CONTACT NAME AT SATCOVER? If the Halifax are unsuccessful in obtaining the money back from Satcover, they will debit the money from my account that they have refunded to me.

I have asked the Halifax to block any future direct debits being set up on my account from Satcover. They have advised me that they are unable to do so as this is an automated service.

The Halifax have told me that I will need to open up a new bank account to ensure that they cannot take out further fund from my current account. Very annoying as I've had it for 20 years!
