lynzpower wrote:Serious. My sister is a bit mad with money, and she goes for regular colonic irrigation at 60 quid a go. At her first one, her therapist ( or whatever they are called) showed her this pure black goo, and she said, without prompting, dont suppose you drink a lot of diet coke do you? My sis goes "how did you know that" she said, "thats what this black tar likke goo is, I see a lot of it, in people that drink a lot of diet coke". Wondered whether to post this earlier or is it too much info? Sod it, we all need to know what we are putting in our bodies, apparently this goo is all the stuff in it your body cant process and sits in your colon. Hasnt put her off though, for me it just makes me even more chuffed Ive given it up
I had a Diet Coke addiction too - took me 3 attempts to finally get off the stuff (though still have the occasional can - but only about 1 a month - think I'll dump it all together after reading about the black goo!! ). I only drank 1 can, occasionally 2, a day but I found that absolutely nothing else satisfied my thirst first thing in the morning - it finally dawned on me that it couldn't be a 'true' thirst as water didn't even touch it!! Couldn't go straight to water - had to have weak diluting juice first for a few weeks (it was obviously the sugar/sugar substitutes my body craved!) and now I just love drinking water and find Diet Coke a bit too sweet! :T
It's quite frightening how many people have this Diet Coke problem! :eek:0 -

Come to think of it...a lot of my debts over the last 10 years are probably on takeaways and restaurants. Shocking!! Luckily I'm a size 10 so only you guys would ever guess this terrible sin. LOL
I was like that, i was 6 stone and could not for the life of me go any bigger until i got the implant put in and i have nearly put 4 stone on  but you can't honestly tell as i don't look out of proportion as everybody who i know and not seen in a long time have said i look a lot better for the weight, it suites me and i am looking well :j . I could eat McDonalds every day a couple of times a day on not put a pond on, i am much happier now that i have put it on and wouldn't change it as i have got bigger bigger boobs now :rotfl: The only thing i would change is my tummy it needs a bit of toning, only thing is i have never done a bit of exercise in my life as i was 6 stone and didn't need to do anything so i don't have a clue where to startThe best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It is - but I'm sure there are still carbohydarates (whether or not it's the sugar substitutes I'm not sure) in it which affect your blood sugar levels.0 -

One of the reasons I gave it up!!- also the fact that I was spending over £5 a week on coffee and coke from the vending machines at work!!

Sugar is a carbohydrate, and carbohydrates effect the blood-sugar level which causes the insulin spike. Aspartame is used in diet cola to replace sugar, it's something like 200 times sweeter than sugar. For about 25% of people, Aspartamte has the same effect as sugar though so not recommended for those on no-/lo-carb diets.
Sodium Benzoate is a preservative with some nasty side effects too, also found in most colas.0 -
I was missing the freedom of wandering into a newsagent's and buying a pile of glossy magazines. However, I've started to notice just how much of the content of the magazines is "buy, buy, buy" and I'm actually going off them. Weird!
The one thing I'm missing the most at the moment is spontenaity - the freedom to buy what I want whenever it takes my fancy. On the other hand, that's what got me into this mess in the first place0 -
What an interesting read this thread has been - thank you all for taking the time to reply :T
There are quite a few things that I can relate to, spontaneity being the top one. It is hard not to allow myself to book a weekend away or a week's holiday just because I fancy one! But I'll take being debt free anyday over any of them really.
We are all doing great and things will only get better when we become DF and richer by ££££ overnight
:T Keep up the good work! :TLeason learnt :beer:0
