I miss clothes shopping and I miss buying presents for people. It was the worst at christmas when I bought my sister a few things (all nice I thought) and she bought me about 20 things (all nice, not just little bits). I felt like the meanest person in the world.
But then I suppose she has not had a lightbulb moment and I have.
What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

Being an MSE doesnt mean you cant be spontaneous, just cheaper.
Or be spontaneous and go to cheap or free places in this country. Guess it means being more creative though.
Problem is, as soon as I spend money I haven't budgeted for in a flight of fancy I then have to go back and work out what that means for the things I have budgeted for.. I find it best to steer clear as friends get a bit cross if I suddenly bail on them cos I couldn't resistStudent moneysaving club - member no. 6Uni Reading0 -
I miss so many things......
Holidays, this year will be the first year since 1998 that I haven't been out of the UK..
New clothes, but then I have loads of clothes already, quite a few of which I have never worn so they are going on Ebay......
Takeaways (but they're not good for your anyway)...
And I will be selling my wedding dress on Ebay, which makes me sad as I only got married the year before last, best day of my life and I saved up for ages to buy it, but needs must....
Talking about concerts, pre my light bulb moment I had a sad five minutes and bought a ticket for the Take That Reunion tour (sad I know....), so I will be off to that on 26th April..... Will try to do it as cheaply as possible though......
Hope that you all have a good weekend..... :beer:Light bulb moment 18/03/06 Total Debt at light bulb moment approx £40k
Total Debt now £29,973.82 :j
Snowball date Dec 2010, but hope to clear by June 2010 if not sooner.....

I miss buying things...........clothes, shoes, armfuls of chocolate bars, little presents and gifts for my friends and family. Especially my little sister who is 12 years younger than me, she is so easy to buy for! but now i'm the one telling her that the clothes she buys are overpriced!!! She is 12 and shops almost exclusively in 'Punkyfish'
I miss the freedom of credit........i never had to check if i had enough in the bank, i never had to wait for payday.
Although i am still enjoying myself, i get freebies and give them to my lil sister, and i'm really getting into saving each month to throw more money at the debtOfficial DFW Nerd Club member no. 0190 -

I miss putting random things into my supermarket trolley and having money in my purse! I draw out all allocated money on Sunday and when it's gone, its gone! OH wanted to use my £2 fund the other week (I've got £12.00 in there) and there was nearly bloodshed!!! He didn't use it in the end though! lolIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0

Things I Miss
**Takeaways...
**Being able to go out for dinner for no real reason except that it's a nice thing to do... or having a pub lunch at the weekend.
**Picking up a box of beer on the way home for a friday night...
**Going to the cinema ...
Things i've realised i can live without:
**Expensive hair-dos... have started getting it cut and coloured by trainees, for a tenth of the price, and it looks absolutely fine.
**Expensive, unplanned trips to the supermarket where i wander around aimlessly picking up things that look nice, with no plan about how i'll use them, and then end up throwing them away a week later.
Things i've realised i can still have, if I shop more sensibly:
**Trips to see friends who live away, if I book the train tickets early and include the extra expenses in my budget plan.
**The expensive skincare and hair stuff that i'm trying not to give up, by getting them off eBay, and only spending on them when i've sold enough stuff on there to have the money to cover it in my paypal account.
**Good quality food and organic veg: I can afford top notch stuff for half what i used to spend, because I plan my meals now.
**Holiday: a bargain holiday in the summer, as long as i put the money aside towards it each month, rather than expecting the whole whack to come out of that month's salary, which never worked, and which meant it ended up going on the CC!

I never really did go mad with money, so I don't suppose I miss that much.
Our debt came from a once in a lifetime Florida holiday. Before that I always paid my card off, never bought if I couldn't afford etc, but once we owed that and tried to pay it back we then ended up putting Christmas on the cards, and it was a slippery slope.
But once it is paid off I will appreciate that extra money so much more, we will have about £300 extra a month to use sensibly, rather than paying it back.0 -
snoozer wrote:New books. I used to haunt Amazon and pre-order books from my favourite authors. I know I could use the library but getting new books is like ordering gold dust.
I've been buying off ebay instead and the previously owned at Amazon so thanks if I've bought anyone's offerings off this site. :j£1 a day Christmas 2023 #190
