Thanks for the chart Grannynise and congrats KPC :T:T
nykmedia - I think it takes 30 days to lose muscle memory - so if you can go 30 nights of tv with no sweets you've cracked it. Then tell me how you did it so i can try :rotfl:
Victory - great tips. My biggest problem is trying to get over the whole "You can't leave the table until you've cleared your plate" mentallity. I eat really quickly and trying to slow down to know that I'm full and then stop, even if there is food left is hard. Crazy how your mind works. I still remember being little and being brainwashed with the whole "Look at the peas left on your plate they want to be with their brothers and sisters in your tummy" Granted I was a fussy eater and it was probably the only way they could get me to eat but its amazing how these things stick in later life and cause problems. Smaller portions def helps now and i'm amazed and how much i used to overeat because of it.0 -

I find that if I have leftovers, I pick while people are still eating, so I've started putting pepper on them as soon as I'm done. I hate pepper, so this stops me picking! Maybe find something you don't like and put that on the leftovers so you can't pick. It could be anything - peppers, salt, ketchup, washing up liquid etc etc0 -
hi everyone, sorry i havent been i contact for a while, still no internet!
had a really rubbish week, we had our house burgled on monday morning. they properly cleared us out, taking our tv, games console, about £500 worth of dvds, guitar hero and a sound system. i cannot explain how angry i am!! there were even 5 of us asleep in the house while it happened and we never heard a thing!
the area i live in is all students so its really heavily targeted. even though there is so much police presence, it still happens.
i come from a very rural community and im just so untouched by anything like this. im def not naive, i ve been travelling round the world by myself and have never had anything like this happen to me. we are also really consicous about security, but as te police said, if they want to get in, they will...
nevermind, its only stuff, it can be replaced.
weight loss going well, a STS this week (but forgot to post) But i think that was due to a very heavy weekend, my flatmate birthday so lots of cake and drinking! was def worht it tho!
best wiches to you all. xxshift the bulge! - 54lb lost so far :j .....alot more to go......:eek:0 -
PepPop, ingrained habits from childhood can come hard to change. One great tip which may already have been mentioned is to put your knife and fork down between each mouthful - feels odd to start with but now I do it most of the time without thinking and I eat much more slowly and realise when I'm full before I've eaten too much. It really makes me notice how much others shovel their food down too! :rotfl:
Only serving yourself up a smaller portion and the helping yourself to more if you want it makes perfect sense - no waste and no forcing yourself to finish something you don't want. We help ourselves to what we want and then I put the leftovers away to be used another time - OH can get more if he wants some but it's not sat there on the table for me to pick at. Most of the time I don't need seconds and it helps keep the food bills down too, which as 4kers is all important!
Thanks KPC, really appreciate it xxThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

awww rosie! you sound v philosophical about it. NYK, I am exactly the same - i love to read, and like to eat whilst i do it. Missy and victory are right - you need something else to keep you busy, so i sew whilst watchign tv, and save up something to eat whilst i read. I've accepted that I'll never not be a binge eater, I just have to train myself to eat the right things.0

PepPop - that's my reason for portion reduction, the 'clear your plate' mentality because I hate waste. On the memory/habit thing, I was taught that a change in habits can be kick started and takes 3 week's for you to accustom yourself to those changes. It's based on the trauma, ritual, routine theory; trauma = shock of finding out there are no sweets, ritual = forcing myself not to buy any, routine = getting used to the new routine and by then the brain has dropped the need for sweets to the bottom of the pile. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
This is week 3, so I SHOULD have educated the brain by next week. Afterall, it can't tell the difference between thinking, dreaming and doing, can it?
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi gang,
I totally forgot to weigh in, but then I don't have much idea what day of the week it is right now! I have one child back in school, and another one off school. I cannot believe my cold isn't improving, and it's starting to get me down a bit, so I'm being kind to myself while waiting to recover, and putting the housework on hold for now, and hoping I feel better by the weekend. The downside is that I am bored silly.
Well done with the losses and STS's, and way to go KPC!One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -

Great idea - pepper makes me cough ... although washing up liquid ... stop overeating for sure and help with dish washing at the same time ...mmmmm:D. I'm gonna try the pepper thing tonight.
rosieposie2000 - that's terrible. As you say it's only stuff and can be replaced but that's not the point. It's never happened to me but I can imagine how horrible it would be:(
bails - also a good idea about putting cutlery down. I'll try that too. My OHs gonna think i've lost my marbles tonight. cutlery down between each mouthful and then pepper on my dinner when i'm finished. His reaction is gonna be great :rotfl:

I love facts like that - I take it works for any habit OH is *trying* to give up smoking. I knit when I'm watching TV - stops me eating food and my nails (Hey it would work for that too - gonna try the 3 week plan)0 -
