My last working day will be April 1st --- yes, April Fool's day and too many jokes leap to mind. I have to give a term's notice so I could have waited till Christams to tell every one but I thought I'd give them a chance to sort out what to do. There are lots of other changes for the school in the pipeline so it's a bit complicated. I'd like to work a bit after April - a few days a month would be ideal - but with a bit of care I think I can manage not to work at all. :j:j

I retired early on my 55th birthday and can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done for myself! I was worried about the financial side of things but in actual fact it hasn't been a problem at all. Looking back I am amazed at how much money it cost me to go to work and how much money I wasted when I was working! Obviously you have to be a little more careful about how you spend but you will find the life benefits far outweigh the drop in income:j Plus in a few more years we can start to get out government pensions as well! :D

Enjoy your retirement - it is the best time of your life!

MY MIL retired when she was 55 and never looked back, sure money is tighter but ask her how to stretch a chicken and she knows:rotfl:she makes her own cards, xmas presents, has a camper van and goes away for 3 months at a time with my FIL, they live frugally, happily, want for nothing, don't hanker for materialistic things, they have a good happy healthy life and their travels gives them masses of memories and lots to talk about, never bored:D

My mum retired 10 years ago and she was in her 50's, i was about 13 at the time so she was..........53. She had to to look after my dad but they lead a busy life. I loved the security of her being there throughout my teenage years.

Found another of my downfalls - homemade bread! I feel compelled to try a slice off each loaf as it cools! Can't imagine losing any weight at this rate - MUST try harder but batch cooking and home baking does not lend itself to the art of losing weight.

Re the retiring thing, I became a grand parent at 40 and my pittance of an income equates to a part time wage, can I call myself semi-retired? :rotfl:

    Hi everyone! :D

Poohbear, that's how I started, doing my exercise in little 'blocks' and slowly building up. Good luck, let us know how you get on with the new routine! Thanks for the support as well :D

BB thank you, you lovely person I don't know how you manage to keep up with the thread so well, and you are so supportive of everyone! Hope all's going well with the projects at home and everything.

I've posted up my next set of half-yearly targets (linky). Apart from the diving one which is new, they are pretty much business as usual. Winter is about keeping things ticking over for me, then I'll see about doing some more exciting stuff next summer. One thing I want to improve on though, is to keep cycling throughout the winter and not be such a fair weather cyclist :A

Granny congratulations on your soon to be retired status! :D I bet your colleagues will be sad to see you go. I think you are an inspiration as well, it's great to have seen you go from being almost completely anti-exercise to doing quite a lot!!!

Sary you may have missed my q or I may have missed your reply, but I was wondering how your friend was doing, the one (from Liverpool?) who started her new approach recently?

Marion nice to see you posted, hope all is OK with you?

Got to dash dinner is ready (jacket pot & chicken, mmm!)

    + 2lbs for me.

Surprised it's only 2lbs now that everything has settled down again. Back to sensible eating plan today. Am sitting at my coffee atm. Have made a chicken salad roll up for lunch. Dinner is not so healthy, we're having steak bakes, chips n beans. Have my apples at the ready, should I get peckish and am leaving my purse at home so I can't invade the vending machines at work :D

As I'm not getting the exercise I need at work atm, I will try to go swimming a couple of times this week. But I'm on late shift so don't know if i'll get round to it. My resolve to get some music on yesterday didn't work. Mum decided she wanted Macaroni Cheese made. As she can't stand to make it any more, I did. Bl00dy knees were killing me afterwards. So we had burgers in our own house for dinner.

But hey, today's a new day...

STS FOR ME THIS WEEK PLEASE:D it is much harder than I thought the eating right with limited time but organization, lists, planning, cooking in batches, spending time in the kitchen for the future are all working, it just is time consuming and putting the dedication in is frustrating but it is worth it to get a sts:D
