Hi Keefrto,
Our speed test indicator is linked to BT's which isn't always as conservative as it could be. We do have customers syncing at 8Mb, so I know it's possible - however the end speed that you receive will entirely depend on the quality of your line. Just want you to keep that in mind!
As far as the question about the MAC is concerned you could call them or email them. Sometimes receiving a MAC on email is simplier because it's just a matter of copying and pasting the information.
Kind regards,
SamaraMadasafish Customer Care0 -
those customers must have a purer than pure copper phone line, and be in the exchange to get 8MB... maybe that figure includes the overheads...0

Dear Samara:
I just signed up with Madasafish last week, and in four days I have my live connection and a knock at the door from the post delivering the router which made me very happy.
I followed the instructions and hooked up the two filters on my phone jacks, hooked up modem, and ethernet to my Apple Macintosh and everything works great.
I have just switched over from Onetel dial-up and am obviously very pleased with the speed that I am receiving, but I went to the Madasafish website to do the speed test under "My Account" and I noticed that my connection speed is only 1.91MB. I am living here in the Maidstone area.
I am not complaining since I have been dragging in slow speed for too long with dial-up, but certainly want to know if there is something that I am doing wrong? What should I check to get more speed.
I will say this: My office does not have a phone jack, so I had to run an extension cable that I purchased at ASDA. If I get a better extension cable, will this improve my speed?
Thanks for your help!0 -
You would get a better connection by connecting to the master socket in your house.... but as this is a problem, a phone extension does effect the speed in the end... a better quality extension cable can improve things - but how much is unknown
i take it that you are on the 8MB package - in which case, this form of broadband takes 10 days to work out the fastest speed possible on your line, based on the overall quality of your line, and the length of your line from the exchange... the closer you are to it, the faster speed you will be able to achieve
if you visit the following web address, type in your phone number - you should be able to find an estimate of the fastest broadband speed that adsl max (upto 8Mb) will give you.... http://www.btwholesale.com/get_broadband/index.html
for example, on the same package - BT wholesale estimates that I should get a 3Mb connection - mainly due to my line length
hope this helps!0 -
Hi Teddyco,
Welcome to our services!
From your posting it looks like that your service has just gone live and thus you're still within the first 10 days. During the first 10 days we are testing your line to find out what the optimum speed is that your line can carry. Your speeds are likely to fluctuate and may be slower than expected - however once the 10 days is up then your speeds should settle. If after 10 days your speeds aren't quite what you expected, please PM me and I'll look into them.
Also - during the first 10 days if you could please leave your router on, you may get better results at the end of the testing period.
I'm a little concerned with the mention of the extension cable. Broadband has been known to work over extensions however it will most likely effect the end speed that you receive. This is why we will only guarantee speeds from the master socket. My gut feeling is that even though you're still within the first 10 day testing period, your speeds are probably also being impacted by the extension cable.
Rather than a phone line extension would you be able to plug your router into your master socket and run a long ethernet cable from there to your computer? Alternatively you could also get a wireless router and connect that into your master socket.
Kind regards,

Samara:
Thanks for your suggestion about a longer ethernet cable, I am going to look into getting one. I just disconnected the phone extension line and plugged it directly into the master BT connection, and did another speed test, and my speed is now sitting right at 2MB. Before it was hovering at 1.91MB and sometimes falling down to 1.7MB.
Thanks for your information and help, I have some work to do.0 -
MrJ:
Thanks for that website link! I did as you suggested and here is what it reads per Maidstone:
"Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 4.5Mbps or greater.
The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set."
My speed test is sitting right at 2MB which leads me to believe that everything is working fine as it should. According to this information, after 10 days my speed should stabilize. I'll wait and see.....
Have a pleasant day!0 -
In our first ten days with MAAF I did several speed tests, all of them around 1.9MB. Now we're out of that period, I'm seeing ever-increasing speeds. Did one yesterday and got close to 7MB!
I imagine in depends a bit on the time of day, as most of the early ones were done mid-morning, and some of the later ones have been in the evening and at weekends. But this one yesterday was also mid-morning - maybe I got lucky!0
