I raised a ticket asking about a new 12 months deal as my current contract expires in 5 weeks or so. I am coming to the end of my thrid year with MAAF. I have the 5GB package and was offered the same as I am on now:
£9.65 for 6 months
£14.65 for 6 months
Thinking of moving to the Post Office anyway as I need more GB and they have phone line and unlimited broadband for £26, sounds good to me as I'm paying more than that now !0 -
I left MAAF on 6th April & they refunded me the month I had just paid in advance. I cancelled my Direct Debit with the bank. Today I have noticed they have taken a debit card payment for another month in advance for 26/4/09 to 25/5/09. I am fuming:mad:
I have never authorized this transaction. There must be a law against this sort of thing.0 -
Leaving MAAF (and the parent, Plusnet - I have experienced both) shows up their BT mentality. They seem to have the mentality of "we lost the customer so sod em", and subject you to this type of appalling service. (Unexpected exit charges/cancellation fees/extra months taken etc).
They don't like it when its made public (especially in the forums at thinkbroadband), and a rep will scurry to offer pm help, so youmay like to post about this there to get a swift response.
Sad that the majority of their customers won't be visitors to the forums and are left to sort things like this out themselves.0 -
If the 12 months are up on 23/03, then pulling a fast one looks to be the answer. Definitely according to the ts + cs you don't need to pay for hardware or activation once you've completed the minimum 12 months. And there is no "cancellation" charge to pay (again, as long as you give 30 days notice to end on or after the minimum 12 months).
This has been regularly reported by customers leaving in this thread, and the reps who came here would sort it.
Now they don't seem to come here, but similar problems do get aired at the maaf forum at thinkbroadband, where the usual "pm me your details" is quickly posted whenever these complaints are aired:

Aw nuts have I missed a trick here. My contract ends on the 2nd June and I guess I'll get walloped for the whole of June if I cancel now. I didn't realise it was 30 days notice.0 -
No. Whatever they say, according to the ts + cs you don't have to pay for any more than your notice period.
So if you cancel today, you should only pay for service till 7/6/09.0 -
After moving to Plusnet i have found out that between midnight & 8am - usage is FREE! - I only found this out by luck!0

Excellent, no different form being on MAAF! Actually after nearly 2 months being on it i wondered why i could not see my usage on my plusnet pages and discovered i never changed over the usernmae & pass from MAAF to Plusnet. Strange as i thought i would have been cut off?
But alls good, going to schedule any big downloads now during the night!!0
