I think if they upgraded their 5gb package to the 20gb for the same price it would be pretty competitive.

Funnily enough that wouldn't be the case. A fully used 20GB per month would actually cost us in the region of...

£8+(20*.75)=£23. And that's just really the wholesale costs without figuring in margin, staffing and building costs. You have to consider that the likes of Sky, O2 and TalkTalk are selling their products at a loss in a landgrab/cross subsidising venture.

Still, of course I completely appreciate why people would want to move service providers for a cheaper deal.

I'm aware of your stance on this Quentin.

Making people aware of the actual costs of broadband from a wholesaling perspective can't be a bad thing.

BB connection was fine Fri/Sat but has dropped a few times over Sat/Sun.

BT due this afternoon, as arranged by James_PN who will hopefully cure it once and for all.

10 days now with unstable / non-existent connection.

    Will keep you posted.

I'm really not after sympathy, I'd just like everyone to have an understanding of why we charge, what we charge. I don't want any sympathy :)

    Update on connection problem:

BT Openreach Engineer has visited the house, he also experienced some connection problems from his laptop, until he changed the NTE2000 master socket.
He has requested that I monitor the connection for a few days and see if there are any further problems, he thinks that this will solve the problem.
He stated that the reason behind connection failures from the test socket is usually due to a card reset taking place at the exchange.
My line is on an interface card with up to 60 other lines, and any fault on any line can result in a card reset.
As the Engineer visit was requested by MAAF, he advised that there will be no charge to myself.

Thankyou james for dealing with my Mac issue and thanks for your recent help via pm. Perhaps I was being too harsh in my criticism as I understand that taking over a new role must take a while to adjust to.

I understand now why you cannot compete with other big name deals and if I wasn't so desperate for the extra usage at the low price I would have stayed as I am one for supporting smaller businesses whenever possible.
