Hi all & James if he's madasafish's representative. A month or so ago I posted this:
.......................................................
Hi - we have a max premier account 50G limit. As it's a student house , there is very heavy usage - about 150 G per month. This is why we relied on the statement on the website:
What happens if I go over my monthly usage allowance?
Additional usage above your included allowance will be charged at £2 per GB (or part thereof). Additional usage accrued in a month will be added to your next invoice. The maximum amount that you could be billed in any one month is £99.99, inclusive of your monthly fee.
Please note : INCLUSIVE of monthly fee. However MAAF have emailed back saying the £126 they have billed us is 99.99 PLUS the monthly fee.
Does this strike anyone else as a bit off?
I've not general objections to MAAF, and I think a lot of "unlimited" services are not worth it, but £126 pm is VERY steep!
Is there any way of checking if this huge usage is in fact correct?
.........
I didn't get any response as far as I can see, and the problem sorted itself out in that madasafish apologised & refunded two months excess over the 99.99.
However, last month they billed OVER £200 and are now saying, tough, sod whot's on the website, it's not in our terms & conditions.
OK, at this rate it would probably be cheapest and least trouble just to cut our losses terminate immediately and pay for the rest of the contracted 12 month period just to get shot, but I would like other peoples opinion. If they had done an unlimited service I would have taken it, but I relied on the "We will never charge you more than 99.99" which is still on the website loud and clear!
Feedback, pretty please??

Hi Su,
Either that's not right or the website is awfully unclear.
Could you PM me your username?“Official Company Representative

This has never happened before. The customer service has always been good but now it's awful, Is there something going on at MAAF?
Any feedback please?0 -

Why on earth are you with maaf with such usage? Surely, as students, one of would be bright enough to realise the package is not for you?
Alas, we are the landlords! We wanted to provide broadband WITHOUT a BT outgoing calls line, which severely restricts choice. Frankly, it didn't occur to us that they could be clocking up that sort of usage (God knows what they're doing, but the words "streaming financial data" was mentioned by an accountancy student and news streaming by a journalism student...)
The key thing was we knew we were taking a risk, but we thought that risk was capped at £100pm not (the latest bill ) £250!!!0 -

Surely you would be better using a different ISP and using BT's outgoing calls barred service, which may cost you £1.75 per month?
Has James_PN not arranged a refund for you yet? His reply "Either that's not right or the website is awfully unclear" seems a very odd response.
Concerns were raised about MAAF last year, when the takeover announcement was made, seems the fears are proving to be true! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
The website is clear as day:The maximum amount that you could be billed in any one month is £99.99, inclusive of your monthly fee
It is again the CS dept who seem unclear on their own company's procedures, and as has been repeatedly reported, their "mistakes" always seem to be in the financial favour of the company. Not what we'd expect from this claim on their website:We are completely transparent and honest when describing our products0 -

Still, the end of the academic year is nearly here and sure as hell we're not going to repeat this mistake.0 -

Broadband and telephony are two separate things on the same physical line. If you had BT Call Barring set up on the line, you could bar calls from the line. The highest level of call barring, bars all calls except emergency, customer service/fault reporting, BT chargecard and freephone numbers. Once set-up this can only then be cancelled by you. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
