Assuming there is a working line at the new house, and you are transferring both phone and broadband, and you have enough time to set it up, there should be no delay.

There is a system called "Simultaneous Provide". You have to first contact your phone provider and get a Simultaneous Provide Code. You then pass this on to maaf and they take it from there.

If you aren't able to use this system, then the worst case scenario is around 2 weeks to connect the bb at your new address. Dial up should tide you over!

Thanks Quentin. Samara had offered me an excellent retention deal but when I mentioned I would be leaving I was treated as if I was a new customer.

I'm tempted to switch provider now before I move house in 2 months time. When is the best time to request a MAC? I am out of contract and my billing period runs on calendar months so I've currently paid up to 31st March.

You can request one any time, they last a month so if you gave notice now, and asked for a MAC at the same time you could pass it on to a new isp around say 15th of next month, that way not wasting too much sub as they take around 10 days to complete.

If you change ISP before you move, make sure they can supply your new address as well as your current one (otherwise they will charge you early termination fee), and they will let you do a house move free (some - including maaf (£41) - charge you if you move during the first year, but let you move free in the second year as long as you take out a new contract).

o2 don't charge if you move house (once per year), and have good offers on at the moment and rave reviews:

It's a same as the MAAF charge is putting me off. Currently looking at Post Office who will transfer but you have to take out a new 12 month contract which is no big deal.

Check out samknows website for the expected date. It shows all the exchanges due to be getting o2 in before the end of May.

    Right!

Lots of posts over the weekend, so bear with me whilst I catch up with them all. I did actually try to log in over the weekend but I'd forgotten my password and it wouldn't email me a new one!

Does anyone know if the change of ownership means we can leave the isp before our MAAF contract expires, without penalty?

Contract law (I'm no expert) dictates if terms and conditions change to your detriment then the supplier would need to give you 30 days notice of a change to terms and conditions, during which time you would be free to leave before you had completed an annual contract.

The terms and conditions of your service haven't changed so this wouldn't be applicable. We've actually made the prices cheaper!

In case it interests anyone, one of my colleagues has written a very informative article on how ISPs are charged by BT Wholesale which you can find here:

The detriment some of us perceive is of course the change of ownership. But the ts + cs (as I quoted), have covered that - Brightview could pass us on to whoever they wanted to (without notice), whereas we are prevented from assigning the contract to anyone else!

Had we wanted to be BT customers we could have gone there in the first place!
