Thanks, I have been keeping my eye, thats how I managed to get the cooker. (If I can get it fitted.) I forgot to ask the housing officer if they had a department that could do that! Der I knew there was something I was going to do.
I am going to do a little surfing of the net for some ideas. The blank canvas gives me some scope! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Sounds lovely and wonderful they've done all the stuff you asked for.
Just a thought: there may be gaps between the floorboards which will let in a helluva draught unless they're filled with strips of wood. Somewhere there is a thread on the My Home board about how to do it, although it seems to be a fairly tedious job......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I shall have to see a bit nearer the time. the builders had stuff everywhere and it was difficult to get around their equipment, but aat least I got the room sizes and window sizes so i can get cracking with the curtains etc. See if the ones I have will fit, or if i need to get others etc etc. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
The new house sounds fantastic Mooloo and great that you are getting things done the way you like/need them from the off. Magnolia is always a great place to start with a blank canvas too, clean and fresh but open to many possibilities as time and funds allow - this house was magnolia for about 5 years :rotfl:
If the rooms are that small would it be worth looking at offcuts/end of rolls in the Carpet Shops? They are quite often a reasonable size and much cheaper than you expect.
Happy Birthday to the twins
Enjoy your Mince and Tatties, it is a really welcome winter warmer in this house!:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

Always an MSE at heart, first place I shall be looking is the remenants sections.
DGD's room is only 2.18m x 2.62m so very small. Luckily she has a cabin bed already.
DS's room is 2.62m x 3.58m
Mine (cos I am the biggest!! ) 3.18m x 4.90m at the deepest part, but its a funny shape with the stairs coming out of it, in a boxed off bit.
The front room is large (well compared,to the rest of the place) and that is 4m x 4.5m if you go into all the recesses etc etc.
Luckily my wall unit will fit the space by the chimney breast, as its 66" wide and the gap was 77" I think!.
The twins are going out on the town tonight, so all beware!!
I cannot believe that they are 22 today!! eek
I have seen a funky carpet on line, at a mere £86.04 quoted for the front room, with £20 delivery, but not fitted. Although I know someone who could probably do it at a pinch. (Gone are the days when I did it! with the removals coming in the door, while I was laying carpets!).
So many possibilites. So much to plan!
Mince and tatties was comfy food.
Now I have had hotchoccy drink and a piece of choccy cake!! I will be going up a dress size for christmas not down one!.:eek:When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

on a similar note to floor gaps, i picked up a tip from a sarah beanie tv prog that, if you are sanding a wood floor, ensure the sander has a hoover bag type attached which catches all the sandings, mix said sandings with a filler type substance and slap into gaps. she said it works a treat because it's the same colour already (no mis-matching) and it fills the gaps just right being a filler.
seems an easier option.
hope it's helpful.RATFINK DAISIES!!!!0 -

Oh that sounds like a good idea. I will talk to the BF of Biggest of Mooloo and see what type of sander he was going to use.
Although looking at the floor it did seam to be quite tight, in the front room anyway. although its hard to see it all with the builders stuff everywhere.! The kitchen top cupboards were still on the floor in the front room along with the old bath and the tiles for the bathroom and kitchen...etc etce etc.
The date being put back, is both a good thing and a frustrating one.!
I have time to source my carpeting etc and curtain fabrics etc
and play around with my budget to get the best out of it. But the wanting to get in and sorted ready for the christmas period is also high on the agenda. Letting me know what money is left for the christmas period, as I have let my plans go to pot somewhat this year. (Again!) Nothing new there then!
DGD wants to do some potato printing, so I better go and get the jobs done so she can. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I think this only works if the boards are clean and only need smoothing down with a sander. The surface of most floorboards several decades old is often pretty dirty so the contents of the dustbag will be very much darker than the newly sanded boards......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Oh Fishy curtains. When we went to see the house on Friday, it was funny as the wall paper that was being removed from the walls was a 1960's ish print with fish all over it! Blue background and lots of bright colourful fish! Bit much for all the walls !
I shall have to see about a blind and maybe curtains for the bathroom as the window is above the bath, and the shower will be pretty close to the window as far as I can remember.
I have been looking at the local carpet shops remnents section, and got a rough quote for installing them, but I forgot to ask about the underlay. With roomsize remnants it was around £500 plus then the underlay and rods, and thats without the stairs. But I was only looking at the carpets that would fit rather then the ones that I would really like!
We will have to see. I am trying to remember that this place is going to be my Home, not just a rented one that I inherit everything from.
Alas BF was not really much help, as he cannot invisage things as well as I can. He also hasnt seen the shell of the house either so thats not really much of a help.
So I am a little frustrated at the moment. Wanted to be Mrs Interior designer, but couldnt get him interested. So it looks like I will just have to go ahead and do it on my own. But if he says that he cannot feel comfortable in my new home I might just blow a gasket! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
