Bit off topic, but ill probably never have a closer thread to ask it on. But those self scanners are a bit flawed after all how does it know if you have put a tesco finest apple on it or an extra value one? (morales aside!) or a Krispe Kreme or a 9p tescos own donut?
Pretty sure tescos and asda are the same IBM software, waitrose deffo same as tesco

Its been months since I swapped the supermarket for good old fashioned local shops, and I dont miss it one bit!
BH, unfortunately whichever way you look at it, its ultimately the consumer who is responsible for the consistent lack of service in our supermarkets, by demanding ever lower prices... I'm afraid I agree with posters who say vote with your feet.
You say you work til 8, is that shift work or do you start later?... I work 8:30 til 6 but I'm happy to give up one lunch hour a week (or an hour on a saturday) to go to the greengrocer and the local butcher, who are always more than grateful for my custom... and surprisingly NOT more expensive!0 -

we havent got a greengrocer or butcher near either work or home, we have a large tesco and about 5 tesco express stores, nearest equivalent is 3 miles from work on the corner of the street i am moving onto in 3 1/2 weeks time.
butchers and greengrocers are on the market which is on 3 days a week (wednesday, friday and saturday- all busy work days for me), the town centre is crowded on those days, if i didnt have to work all the days it would be fine but hey thats life. everything else was killed off by, you guessed it the big t.
the market is kept going by the fact that rents are relatively low (the only thing that keeps tourists coming to the town is the market and its numerous mobile phone stalls) there are a handful of meat places and a couple of frozen food outlets (farmfoods etc on a smaller scale but not chain stores)
i am painting a very glamarous picture of my home townthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

You have my sympathies, I think this is the way a lot of towns are going (tesco towns i think is the phrase), I am lucky enough to have these shops on my doorstep, but I know it is tough for a lot of people... how close are you to the countryside? cos farm shops may be a possibility, not cheap I know, but at least you would be sure of the quality and service0 -

actual proper countryside or a few fields?
proper countryside is 20 odd miles
my town is a tesco town, town i am moving to is an asda town (only supermarket in the town is asda, somerfield went years ago) and next town to that has morrisons and aldi :eek::eek::eek::eek: how can i cope with such choice :rotfl:
where i live now has an asda (closes 8pm), netto (closes 8pm) and aldi (closes 8pm, far end of town)things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

I was asked if I was over 25 in M&S last week. I'm 34 and have a stressful enough job that I have a few grey hairs. To be fair, the checkout lady didn't insist on seeing the ID - I think my astonished reaction was convincing enough. It's getting like the USA now - the day you don't get asked for ID when you buy alcohol there is the day you call your plastic surgeon.3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000

I think what is worse and still not been addressed, is when a customer DOES have I.D. and still gets refused on the grounds that a family or friend with them DOESN'T have I.D.
Ultimately I will repeat that it is not the fact that I.D. is needed, it is the attitude given in to which it is asked for, particularly by a portion of Tesco staff, admittedly it could be any other Supermarket that offers the same unproffessional service, whether they (staff) have had a hard day or struggling on minimum wage ISNT the customers fault nor is it the customers problem and it should not be taken out on the customer.
I hate my job, but I know it pays the bills, and I am not in a position to complain (particularly to customers) about it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

the day i dont get asked for id is the day i draw my pension :rotfl:
i was "asked" (well a manager demanded an explanation) as to why i didnt have my id with me, i said that i'm 28 there is generally no logical reason to carry my driving license, the police will give me 7 days to produce it (even though in 6 years of driving i have never been asked for it)
its odd really i had a card my (very well known) bank will only issue to only 18s, a staff id pass for my towns biggest private employer (only employs over 18s) and car keys and i am not old enough to buy alcohol :rotfl:
yet if i get stopped by a market researcher, they ask if i am over 18 and i say i am 17 to avoid having to answer their questions i get the glare of doom that they dont believe me
my latest trick was with argos account card staff, i lied and said i earn less than their criteria :rotfl:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

i've been id'd since and the approach by the (non tesco) employee was totally different, he was even embarrased when he saw my year of birth as 1981 and said i was one of those were he couldnt tell if i was just over or just under 25 but he knew i was old enough to drink but even that would get them questioned out back (which is true, loads of my old managers work at that store now as they get rotated every few years)
we had a laugh and a joke about it and i mentioned i was an ex asda trainer and supervisor and once id'd someone aged 32 :rotfl: and someone else that was about 35 and looked about 21, thankfully she was used to it as she looked ridiculously young :rotfl:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
