The teachers aren't on strike nor are they supporting the strike. At our place the kids arent in that day due to all the associate staff ie support staff, dinner ladies etc are on strike, but the teachers have to still come in and do their own work!!

My daughter brought a letter home today saying her school would be closed on Tuesday. It said it was due to industrial action by non-teaching staff so they couldn't open the school for health & safety reasons.

Sorry just read my opening post it isn't actually teachers on strike its TAs and dinner staff etc so schools are closing due to shortage of staff not teachers, i work for the local council at a resource centre for handicapped adults so we're closed too.

Its throughout the UK not just in certain areas but i suppose it depends whos in which union,it says that the unions striking are UNISON,the Association of Educational Psychologists, the Community and Youth Workers Union, the GMB, the National Association of Probation Officers, the Northern Ireland Public Services Alliance, the NUT, TGWU and construction workers’ union UCATT

This site explains whats happening and who will be striking: people like Drivers, refuse collectors, estate and street cleaners, caretakers, gravediggers and parking staff and all support services staff that are the backbone of local public services.

My department, the homeless team (well not me as I don't work tuesdays) are on strike as well, not everyone is allowed to go on strike as we are considered a key service.

My neice and nephews school is open, but they have been told there is no breakfast club, no hot dinner (so have to fetch a packed lunch) and no teaching assistants in that day.

  • My two older children brought letters home yesterday 28th strike 29th Teacher Training Day! The younger two 10 & 7 haven't brought a letter yet but I'm expecting one. Wonder if I can charge them £100 per child for keeping each of my children out of school

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it
