I have just checked with DS1 school and apparently everything is open on Tuesday . The dinner ladies are not union members , and the teaching assistants have not said anything as yet.
Interestingly , the school secretary did say that the only obligation by strikers was to inform the school on the day -must admit I was not aware of that .

Its the catering staff who are on Strike. There is no news of teachers strike.

We are in Fife and my daughters primary school is off on Tuesday although her brothers secondary school is open. I don't think someone will be too happy on Tuesday morning!

A lot of council websites have a list of temporary school closures on them now, so if anyone is unsure if their Childs school is going to be closed it might be worth a look on your local councils site.

For anyone who lives in County Durham, the list can be seen Here

Both my kids are off on Tuesday, which means a extra lie in I suppose :)

Agree with the reasons on why there is a strike, but have learnt from bitter experience that the odd day here and there will not make the powers that be change their minds. It would really need all of the teaching friternity (not sure if that is the right word!!) to got on strike for a long time to be even able to make the government shift on this one - even then I very much doubt it!!! The only people who lose are the people who go on strike (as they lose a day's pay) and the parents who will struggle to look after their children.

There must be a better way to get their point across, but not sure what the answer is! I really do feel sad  for the people in this situation - not having monies in the pension fund coz they have been spent/invested badly - it amounts to no more than legalised theft (IMO)
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

My teachers never had assistants, and as for my kids' dinnerladies they spend the hour chatting to one another or on their mobiles rather than watching the kids.
The school said they have given us a letter today to give parents 'time to make alternative childcare arrangements'LOL anyone tried to get childcare at the last minute! Ironically I should have been going on a training course for school governors.

Hasnt anyone worked it out yet - if you dont work you get everything paid for when you are a pensioner anyway

This isn't just about school's though, it's all local government, so you probably, won't get your bins emptied, and if there's a problem with your Council Tax bill, they'll be on strike as well. This is UNISON so most Local Council employees will be on strike. And when this happens in every Council across the Country then people will notice. Enough people are talking about it on here so it's having the desired effect.
