Probably best to start a new thread about the pros & cons of renting, because the discussion will get lost on this thread.

care to expand on this please??

my position is that im in the military and have been posted away from where i was based and am now 100 miles away from the family home so only get to see my wife and children for a short time over the weekend.

we are going into military married quarters at the camp i am now based which are cheap enough to be able to afford the mortgage on my current house plus the married quarter.

i have the house on the market for a reasonable price which would be great if i can sell it at.

what i meant by my original post was that if i cant get the price for it i want i wont sell it as i wont make much profit so it makes sense to rent it and wait for the market to pick up again.

its not going to cost me in extra on the mortgage as my mortgage lendor have said due to being ibn the military they wont change my rates or charge me to let my house.

what i can rent it for will easily cover the mortgage.

    hope this helps

Will it easily cover the mortgage, landlord insurance, repairs and maintenance, tenancy deposit scheme, gas safety certificate, tax on rental income, management fees (if you don't intend to manage it yourself) and void periods?

An internal part went south in our shower, on its own it cost my landlord £400. In addition to this the landlord has had to pay for replacement taps in the bathroom and perished seals under the bath causing water damage to the ceiling underneath. All this in 12 months.

If there was that much damage surely he would have claimed on his insurance?

    hi all.

our situation is this, house has been on the market for about 11 months, in that time we've had 5 viewings & 1 offer (which was made last week). The offer came from an investor so it was considerably less than our bottom line. We have accepted, but it's been hard, reason being we don't know when the next offer will come & if we don't sell now the next offer could be less than what we've been offered.

    Rock and a hard place.

No. He paid for it. Probably didn't want to see his premium rocket. Besides they were all separate events.

You must live in a right dump.

I've not had a problem with taps, washers, baths or showers in over 20 years of homeownership.

Did have a problem with a toilet once about a decade ago. Think the part cost me £3.84.

Why not just admit you're a crashaholic nutter that tries to convince everyone to sell, sell, sell as cheap as possible?

Why not just admit that you still live with your parents?
