wow lots of news from everyone, have had lots to read!
Our situation has changed for the better we hope (fingers crossed). We had an offer which we thought was bit too low but put in an offer on the one we want to buy and they accepted it so we have lost a grand overall, so not too fussed!
Our buyer has ordered a survey and they are coming on Thursday. She is a cash buyer and who we want to buy from is going into rented so hopefully things will move quickly. Have to order our survey but think may wait until our survey has been done in case she pulls out, don't think this is too likely as house is in good repair and we have done everything which was shown on the survey we paid for when we bought it!
once we have exchanged I will start packing in ernest (have packed 4 boxes) dont want to tempt fate
For those of you who have moved lots of times before where did you get boxes from, did you use a removal firm or hire a van? Basically any advice about the packing bit would be great, i have 2 kids with lots of stuff and dont want to be packing until the night before we move:rotfl:Cross Stitch Challenge Member ?Number 2013 challenge = to complete rest of millenium sampler.0 -

We haven't moved much, but started packing fancy china, antiquey things and stuff we rarely use long before the projected move. We used newspaper & greenhouse bubble insulation, but places like Pickfords sell similar. This meant we only had to do the everyday stuff at the last minute.
For boxes, we watched the shops and raided those who put out big boxes for the recycling truck just before closing time (all nicely flattened and packaged-up!) We just re-assembled the boxes using a brown tape dispenser.
We own a van, so that bit was easy. We probably cut the removal bill in half, doing all the small things ourselves, but we were only moving up the road!0 -

Last time we moved we got a firm in to do all the packing and removals. It was so easy, I'd definitely recommend it if you can afford it. It might not be MSE but it takes away so much stress. We will do it again this time. We have already boxed up loads when getting the house ready for sale but we have a mountain of things to go and moving is stressful enough so anything to make it better.
We are in a similar poisition to you re our chain so it will be interesting to see how long it all takes. We are getting a mortgage through First Direct. We have the paperwork to fill in but need bank statements we don't have so have had to order them which takes 5-7 working days. We agreed a price Monday just gone (29th) and the survey is booked for Wednesday on our house. Obviously the survey we are paying for is going to be ages away because FD have to do the mortgage offer first.0 -
For boxes etc, join up to your local freecycle network (yahoo groups). There are always people putting them out on offer after they have moved, or you can ask for some and Im sure people will offer you loads. Go to www.yahoogroups.com and search for freecycle* (*your town/city name) and it should come up quite easily. HTH xx0

Looks like we'll be joining the merry throng again in a few months time.
Yesterday we made an offer (subject to survey) on a 2 bed bungalow that needs EVERYTHING doing to it. We're hoping to get the work done before moving in, and at that point we'll put our current house on the market.
It's all very scary to us, as we've been in our house since 1973!
We're hoping to get the surveyor in next week, as vendors are offering on a repo and will need contracts exchanging in 21 days and another 7 days to completion.
Sometimes I think we must have gone completely mad!

All stressed today as I have lost faith in my lender to get any of the paperwork right. Should have had confirmation by now that everything has been done...
Honestly, if I change lender at this stage, coukd anyone get it through in 3 weeks? I'm a sound prospect, the property in normal and my solicitor has done everything - it's just the bank admin who keep making mistakes and then doing nothing about it until i phone them up!!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
boohoo:( just phoned the estate agent to ask how much interest theres been on the property and apparently not alot atall its very early days:(
Been on 4/5 weeks now so not long compared to alot of people on this forum but i just want a viewing so it feels like somethings happening!!!!
motivation is most definitly slipping0 -
HKS123 dont get too disheartened, its early days yet plus lots of people are on holiday so I'm sure you'll get a viewing soon.
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I am going to get on freecycle (why didnt i think of that?) prowl around the recycling areas as we cant afford to get someone to do it- actually that's a lie as i havent a clue how much it is but i am too tight to spend the money I think:rotfl:I can see your point about de -stressing though but not sure i would want someone else packing my stuff ( and no i havent got an adult video collection! ) .
I thought I had de-cluttered before we went on the market but having to actually put something into a box has made me think twice about a lot of stuff. I have to clear the loft yet too as have been ssaving my baby stuff for a relative and she is now preggers so am pleased I can give my hardly used stuff to a new home:beer: I can see it taking ages so am going to hope the sale doesn't fall through and I have to unpack boxes again!Cross Stitch Challenge Member ?Number 2013 challenge = to complete rest of millenium sampler.0 -

Hey Pink, they might want to think a bit longer before offering more? It's a big decision buying a house after all. We had a second viewing before offering more than our initial offer for the place we're hoping to buy, mainly cos we wanted the builder we hope to do the work it needs to have a look and give us a guestimate:beer: of costs for work.
Good luck, at least you are getting viewings. Am sure I will be moaning when we finally get house on market and nobody at all comes to view! ;-)
Best wishes,
Maggie0
