Well we got desperate last night and posted a wanted ad on Gumtree....We've had two scamsters already...
Well we only got married last year so it's turning out to be an eventful first year and a bit...thanks recession..:(
We're hoping it won't come to that...We have the possiblity of one property but it's in the wrong location and if hubby had one meeting it would mean a 7 hour round trip which isn't feasible really in a day, so he'd have to find somewhere to crash for the night (probably a friend)....It would also mean horrendous costs in terms of petrol etc which is why we aren't considering it as a serious option just yet... We also don't want to have to use the old flat as we just want shot of it..
We were on the waiting list for another property for a viewing (keys were going tobe available in July) but after a couple of weeks the owner has taken it off the market..
I feel for you Sonastin, i really hope something comes up soon...Will there be a chance in the future that you can be nearer each other?
OH is self-employed in a business that wouldn't really work well here - there's some work around but not enough to pay the bills. I'm on a promise of a good job where I work (bosses job when he retires in a couple of years) so I'll be earning enough to pay for us both. But as the promotion isn't set in stone, I don't want him to give up his business and then we end up with us both struggling in rubbish jobs. If promotion fails to materialise, I'll upsticks and move to his place and find some work but I'm not likely to get this sort of opportunity again and now is not the time to be looking for my sort of work. So its a bit of a waiting game for now. In the meantime, I'm selling the house he doesn't like and hopefully going to buy a house we both like and then he can spend time here when his work is quiet :T
I've done the long-commuting thing in my last job and its really not a lot of fun. Couldn't make the bosses see that day of driving instead of working + hotel bill & dinner + meeting + second night in hotel & dinner + 3rd day driving instead of being productive + fuel costs actually added up to more than the cost of an air fare for each meeting. At least it was only my time then not my money!0 -
Week 45 (since putting house on market!) - looks like I'm finally getting somewhere! got this from our solicitor late yesterday
I have just had confirmation from the buyers solicitor on your sale that
they can agree to completion on the 9th July (Gentoo have confirmed that
they can complete their matter on this date).
I am now advising the vendors solicitors on your sale accordingly and
hopefully we may be able to move to an exchange of contracts early next
week to make the date legally binding.
Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.0 -

My hubby is self employed too, hence the rental part for the moment
Gumtree has turned out to be the waste of time i suspected it to be. We got one possible but in reality we think it's going to be tiny as DH's relatives used to have a cottage like it and we can't imagine how they've managed to fit 3 bedrooms in there....
How is it particulary modern homes (cottages like the one above i can understand) are built with the assumption that people don't come with furniture......I like having a chest of drawers and bedside tables and a table big enough for 6 in case family descends upon us...Am I really that odd??? :undecided
Sounds like better news fingers crossed....0 -
Hi,
Just came accross this thread and thought I would join in.
We had no intention of moving then a detached dungalow came up on our street & before our feet had touched the ground we had put in an offer and had it accepted.
We had agreed a long date (September 17th) to allow us time to find a buyer, and given that our house is in a normally highly sort after area we didn't think this would be a problem. 10 weeks & one viewer, who was interested, but hasnt even put their house on the market yet and we're not so sure!
Sadly we live in scotland so pulling out is not an option, so we are going to have to bite the bullet and rent out our existing property (and tighten the belt to a size that my waist hasn't seen since the 80's:() unless a buyer appears suddenly out of thin air.
Anyway feels good to get it of my chest, hope you all have more luck than I seem to be having.0 -
Got our 1st viewing this morning!! Dreading it realy because the house isnt really up to the standard that I would like because we have all been ill with the sickness bug from hell :-( Today is the first day I have felt vaguely human and it has taken all my energy to get my lil gir to school! However we have done our best. Viewer wanted to come yesterday but we explained to EA that we had all been ill so they made it today instead - would rather have waited but EA seemed very keen to have the viewing done so yesterday we were running round feeling awful cleaning/tidying the house. Just hope we have done enough!0

So sorry to hear the news that your purchase finally didn’t work out sonastin. A great shame.azkaban420 wrote: »Notloaded, sorry to hear about your loss, it's awful when you have to deal with stresses of selling a house as it is, so it must have been really hard for you with your mother passing away...hugsazkaban420 wrote: »…chased everyone and lo and behold we've received a letter (via scanned email from my solicitor) from our buyer's solicitor with a list of 7 queries, and some forms requiring to be filled in and other bits and bobs. Now I'm very quick with stuff like this, normally send stuff back the same day or at the most within 2 days (as I plan to with this) but am sat here thinking WHY has it taken them this long to ask these questions? They could have asked weeks ago, I'd have responded and they could come back with more stuff?0
