Heard from vendor's EA today. She has decided to quit her overseas job and is now moving back into the area and into the house so it is officially off the market

Trying to focus on the thought that if a) my first buyer hadn't pulled out or b) I hadn't tried my luck with a lower offer but just stuck to the original one we might have managed to get a lot further down this path before she realised that there's no place like home and pulled out. At least I've only wasted a valuation fee - no sol's fees or surveyor for purchase.

And it could be worse - the EA has been working to sell this place for 2.5 years and on the day he finds a proceedable buyer she withdraws. Some would say that's EA karma for you but I actually think this one might be one of the good guys (if they exist :rotfl:)

Time to join a buyers support network as (hopefully) I'll soon be homeless. Surveyor is coming to my place tomorrow :) Luckily my mum has several spare rooms for me to fill with my junk until I can persuade OH that he has to compromise if I'm going to find something we can both like - hopefully living with my mum will speed up the realisation ;)

Blodwen, it's been 4 weeks today since we accepted our offer and we've not had anything happen. I sent my solicitor a message yesterday and he's duly chased everyone and lo and behold we've received a letter (via scanned email from my solicitor) from our buyer's solicitor with a list of 7 queries, and some forms requiring to be filled in and other bits and bobs. Now I'm very quick with stuff like this, normally send stuff back the same day or at the most within 2 days (as I plan to with this) but am sat here thinking WHY has it taken them this long to ask these questions? They could have asked weeks ago, I'd have responded and they could come back with more stuff?

It's just time-consuming/wasting, and unnecessary delays as far as I'm concerned, and they've only got into action after my sol has chased them....I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't chased sooner myself. Get onto your solicitor Blodwen and see if you can 'Gee up' from your end...

I must admit though, now that I've seen something from the buyer's end, I'm a bit happier that the wheels are turning, albeit slowly :p

Glad to hear things are happening for you Az, must be reassuring that progress is being made. We got all the paperwork through from our solicitor about selling yesterday - at least they seem to be on the ball, thank God. Like you, I'd normally have it filled in and sent back today, but since we don't know what's going on with our potential purchase I'm loathe to do it yet in case we end up homeless! We're going to sell anyway even if the purchase doesn't happen, but I just want to know what is going on first. If my EA actually rang I could ask them what the buyer's timescale is and whether they want to be in by a particular time (think it might be rented to students so they could well have a deadline in mind), but at the moment everything is up in the air. Re. purchase - no word from vendors yet after we said we didn't want their furniture. May hear something today but as I mentioned before, even if they accepted I'd be very worried about them pulling out, they don't seem to particularly want to move and it's just circumstances that has dictated it- tricky one :( Anyway, rant over!!

Sonastin - sorry to hear about your vendor's decision - could she not have thought about this 2.5 years ago?! At least if it's off the market you know for definite and can move onto looking at something else rather than hanging on and hoping.

NEH- good luck with the renting, might be doing the same at some point!!

    Wheeliewood - Good luck with viewers/offers :)

Lack of viewings everyone - is it holiday season already ?????

I am in the Midlands .... be interesting to see where everyone else is and how your viewings are going.

So pretty fed up as you may have seen over the weekend ...... my OH rang "new" EA on Monday to see why we had no viewings/interest to be told "pretty quiet, football, holidays etc etc" which is no surprise really ......

anyhow, the surprise was they had NO VIEWINGS at all that weekend for ANY of the properties on their books - just checked on Rightmove and there are just under 100 available - I was pretty shocked to hear that !!!!

We're facing the same dilemma, though it may come to the point where I head to my mum's and OH has to move back into our old flat... :(

Notloaded, sorry to hear about your loss, it's awful when you have to deal with stresses of selling a house as it is, so it must have been really hard for you with your mother passing away...hugs

Sonastin, bad luck about your offer being rejected, what a shame - I hope you manage to coax the seller to part with her house to you!

PottyHouse, I also agree, it is your house until you sell, so you can do what you like with it, but it would be nice 'out of courtesy' to let the EA know so that they can pass the info on to the relevant parties...if anything any buyers in the pipeline will be happy that you're touching up the house?

WheelieWood, welcome back officially to the madhouse, and fingers crossed for better outcomes with a new EA and lower price!

NEH, good luck with finding a suitable rental soon...it's all a horrible long waiting game isn't it?!

My quote system is going all wonky today...

Well if you do rent and you have a shortage of properties in your area my advice would be look sooner rather than later.....

Fingers crossed that something comes up for you soon and you don't have to go separate ways! My OH and I have never managed to live together because our jobs are 250 miles apart so it isn't so bad for us but I can imagine the wrench if you have to live in different places after you have spent so long together.

My OH will have to spend more weekends here while we house-hunt and if I end up at my mums, that means weekends at her house. And as she looks after my 18-month old niece during the day, there is a cot in the spare bedroom. If that doesn't drive him to be more realistic about what sort of house I can afford to buy, I don't know what will :rotfl:

I know what you mean about just wanting to hear something. I wish it were like a movie where you could now cut to the scene where the EA passes the message on to the vendors and see what the reaction is and then cut back to your story again! I start to imagine all sorts of scenarios and reasons why I haven't heard anything (usually about 15 minutes after I last got in touch :)). Never imagined it was going to be taken off the market though!

Well we got desperate last night and posted a wanted ad on Gumtree....We've had two scamsters already...

Well we only got married last year so it's turning out to be an eventful first year and a bit...thanks recession..:(

We're hoping it won't come to that...We have the possiblity of one property but it's in the wrong location and if hubby had one meeting it would mean a 7 hour round trip which isn't feasible really in a day, so he'd have to find somewhere to crash for the night (probably a friend)....It would also mean horrendous costs in terms of petrol etc which is why we aren't considering it as a serious option just yet... We also don't want to have to use the old flat as we just want shot of it..

We were on the waiting list for another property for a viewing (keys were going tobe available in July) but after a couple of weeks the owner has taken it off the market..

I feel for you Sonastin, i really hope something comes up soon...Will there be a chance in the future that you can be nearer each other?

Hi monkeys bunny, I know you have been v.busy tying the knot etc - Congratulations !!!!

To cut a long story short we were waiting for exchange of contracts to be told by EA (who is acting for us and our Buyer) that our Buyer is at risk of being made redundant ...... we went back on the market as we do not know the timescale of the whole process (phone interview, proper interview if that sucessful etc etc etc) and even if he will end up with a job at the end of it (his OH is a SAHM Stay at Home Mum so affordability is the issue).

That was over 2 weeks ago and we have just heard today apparently he got through the phone interview - not sure how much longer its going to take - hoping for some clarification soon !!!!

The house we were buying was no chain at the top, they were going into rented and we think they put down deposits etc to reserve a house so they are pretty disappointed too - needless to say they are back on the market so as time goes on we are concerned we will loose the house we have so desperately been after for the last 16 months or so.

Wasn't a short story after all was it - sorry !!!!!

    Thank you.
ahhh i see. thats what happened to us, got a buyer, got as far as completion dates being set, he got made redundant and that was that. but they had really lied from the start to us (very long story). tht was all back in December

    rubbish isnt it
    :p
    Thank you to all posters

Well we've reduced our asking price by just over 10% today so will see what happens.

My feeling is that if there are no buyers around atm, a price drop wont magic them out of thin air but DH insisted. We've got a time limit where he & DS1 need to be in another county by early Sept so we have no choice really but I'm not happy as now the asking price is below the amount we'd apparently 'sold' at only a couple of weeks ago :(
