Bit of a problem. To put it bluntly. My new home does not feel like home and I am feeling rather low/depressed at the moment and I don't know why. Has this happened to any of you just after you have moved house? I am worried that it won't go away. What can I do to make myself feel better?

It is a like what Post Natal Depression is after giving birth and I am being serious.

All the high levels of adenalin over a long period and then it happens. It is common and we used to take flowers or something round to say 'welcome to your new home' so came across it regularly. It is also a time of questioning, if you did the right thing, can you afford it, what wil the new neighbours be like, etc, etc.

It will pass just get stuck in with the chores to take your mind off things.

    Thanks for your replies.

I think it is probably post truamatic stress or something similar. If I think about it carefully, I haven't actually had a 'home' since the beginning of August last year. As soon as our house went on the market it didn't feel like home anymore. Maybe I have forgotton what 'home' actually feels like.
Anyway, there is 20% off at Brantano today so I am going to get me some shoe therapy, it will take my mind off the PTS.
  • Hello Everyone!

I have been watching this thread for a while now...well since we decided that we were moving house...god knows why!! Well I do, it's because we made the mistake of just 'having a look' at a Persimmon development close by and loved a property on there. Anyway, to cut a long story short they refused a part exchange and encouraged us to look at their Home Exhange Scheme, which is where they guarantee you a price for yours and market it at a lower price to sell. Well they didn't offer us enough so we walked away. Needless to say they still have the properties available!

Glad we walked away as this gave us the time to think about what we were going to commit to and...for me to get up to speed with what's going on in the world of property, especially new builds! A lot to consider!

Sooo...us, that weren't moving and were happy where we were (haha!) we decided to market the house via an estate agent and we looked further afield and found a 4 year old property that we liked. We went to view and liked it but as we were only just getting our property up and running on the market we did not do anything. We then received a call from the vendors EA who said that the vendor had said he may be able to take our property in Part Ex if we were interested! So we went for another look!

We have now decided that, yes we like it and could see ourselves living there so I contacted the EA. The vendor wants to view our property first before we get down to figures but (here is my query) the EA then threw into the conversation that if this went ahead then they would bill us their fee (£2200) as they class themselves as finding our buyer! I spoke with our agent about doing some private listings of our property (good tip -thank you Pawpurrs!) and they said that would be fine as there would be no fee payable to them if they did not introduce the buyer to us. So I'm thinking that we would only have one fee to pay.

BUT I got a bit of a bad feeling about this and just wondered if anyone else thought this was the norm??

By the way it's seems very slow in this part of the world with regard to viewings, etc! Although I keep getting told that I'm impatient as we've only been on the market 2 weeks with 1 viewing! They loved the house and said they would love to put an offer in but they have a property to sell and it seems they may be in negative equity

Sorry for the long posting but it feels good to be with you all after lurking so long!!!

Just popped on here for a bit of an update as I have been on holiday. We sold our house quite quickly for a price we were happy with but I'm now quite nervous about losing our buyers - we've viewed quite a lot of properties so far (8), but have not found the right one. We accepted the offer coming on for three weeks ago now.
Tonight I'm looking at a bit of a project house, which we're not averse to, in a location we like. It has much of the garden concreted over, and I'm not sure how you would go about breaking that up (or what it would cost). I'm also looking at an ex-local authority house that has 2 bedrooms (we want three, but many of the other houses in that road have had extensions). Don't think I would be against ex-LA, as they do seem to be solidly built. Provided it's a nice road etc etc. It is in a location that we like, the village my parents live in. The other house we are viewing tonight is a newer property that sounds interesting, although I think that the kitchen may be a bit on the small side...
We're looking up to 350k with a view to offering no more than about 320k. These three are all well within budget but we are still hankering after a house we saw a while back, when we thought we could afford more, which is on at 375, and another on at 399,950. Out of our league although the latter has been on a while now!

I phoned the estate agent this morning and our house is now down by £11,000!

Let's hope this gets us moving at last.

  • things have gone really dead here havent heard anything from either EA. hope thats not the end of the spring bounce 1 viewer. the market round here has always been bad but i thought with 2 EA involved things might pick up. im feeling quite lucky that we have a nice house to live in till it sells today though. a house in the next street burnt down yesterday poor old lady in her 80s they got her out and as far as i know shes ok but her house is basically just brick walls left the roof windows and doors have all gone. its a semi so dont know what state next door will be in either it looks ok from outside but i would imagine theres quite a bit of damage inside. i was shocked at how quick it took hold. i would say to everyone check your smoke alarms. and make sure your insured.

Hi all, newbie poster but long term lurker...

We have had our house on the market for nearly 3 months and have had 3 viewings. Of those, 2 have been positive. The first couple came to view having had an offer on their place. They are negotiating with their potential buyer and will apparently offer on ours if they get an agreement. The other couple are in rental accommodation having recently moved to the area. They have a house in the East Anglia area that they can't sell but think they can afford to buy as they rent it out etc. They apparently want to make an offer pending mortgage approval.

When we first put our place on the market we saw the place of our dreams and fell in love - but of course we are still on the market and that has been snapped up by someone able to move more swiftly. We are lucky really because we don't HAVE to sell like a lot of others who need more space etc. If we didn't get any sensible offers, it would just mean that we can't move and we love this house we live in so that wouldn't be the end of the world.... but we do really want somewhere with some land, hence putting ourselves through all this pain!!

So, we're all in this together. Good luck to everyone in the process with us!

Well we had our first viewing today. The EA is doing our viewings, and he was not impressed with them, describing them as "a***s" !!! Said they wanted a palace for the price of a 2 bed flat ! Our 4 bed det house has been valued at £185k & is on the market at offers over £179k, so we think that's fairly reasonable. Anyway, onwards & upwards !!

    good luck to all

    regards

Moneysavingfamily; it seems to have gone very quiet all over at the mo. Like chickmug said though you can have a scenario where you have no viewings for a while and then the 'one' comes along. Perhaps I'm just being overly optimistic but I haven't given up yet!!!!!!

Welcome to all new sellers and good luck to all
