goldengirl - I think you are doing the right thing steering him through the agent, imo it sounds very dodgey indeed. Please do not at any point offer to meet this chap in your house alone. Is there any way of checking your door before you open it to make sure you don't open it to him if he just turns up again?
I hope he is genuine but at the end of the day, it's not going to cost him anything going through the agent - it's you who pays them. Especially as he has offered the price already - not like he's asking for the EA fees off.
If you feel a bit awkward about telling him to deal only with the EA just tell him that is what you are paying them for and so you'd like them to 'earn their fee' - hopefully he'll understand?? A lot of people use EAs as they want to stress of negotiating etc with a buyer taken away from them.
He has just been here for about 5 minutes, neighbour walked straight across....i put him on the phone to the EA and she took all his details and the details of the offer and then said he should leave and she would contact him later. So he then went
He is not coming here again, i'll see to that.
he also tried to give me 5k cash as a token of his interest and to prove his interest, apparently thats the way they do things. i said no thanks,2010 challenges

the only issue was the small bedroom (bed 3) was v small (OK, it was in the details so we knew not huge), but what made it worse was it had a huge bulkhead in it from the staircase (was above the stairs) so it lost a valuable bit of floorspace. Now, this wasn't in the details at all so unless you'd viewed the place you wouldn't know.
Fair enough - see your point.
Thanks!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

You've done well - still keep your wits about you.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
OMG goldengirl - he sounds well dodgy! I would have been quite scared if I'd been on my own - so pleased your neighbour was about.
As I said earlier, any way of looking at the door and just not answering it if it's him? I have a funny feeling about this guy. If he's not playing 'ball' now what's it going to be like down the line.... You just don't offer someone £5k cash like that..... Very odd - what does your DH/OH think?0 -

I'm very lucky - got fab Solicitor and EA - just haven't managed to keep our chain secure - been on the market since last Feb - hoping this Feb something positive will happen.
Fingers crossed for you - bet you can't wait to exchange !
I can't wait! Boxes everywhere at my house!0 -
thanks both,
i can see who is stood at the door from my front bay window - so will be checking in future
i feel very uncomfortable i must admit, they are not coming in again!.
The EA has just rung me, she said if they want to come in again make an appointment and she will be there as well.
i think this one may keep us entertained for a while yet2010 challenges

Hey Pawpurrs!! Nope, still not exchanged. Was led to believe we were going to be exchanged by Fri but hubby just got off the phone to say our solicitor is not so sure - we are still waiting for our buyers buyer
What makes me cross is our buyers solicitor sent a letter to ours saying 'at no time did our client say the purchase was NOT reliant on the sale of their property' so I told hubby to get straight on the phone to the EA and ask them why we were given false information. Not only did the EA tell us that (and Im sure I have it in writing somewhere) but our buyers also told us that themselves when they came to look at the house! Grrrr - I cant stand liars!!

mrsw - I know exactly how you feel! We accepted an offer on our house in October, found one straight away and had our offer accepted, that fell through early Dec and amazingly we found another (much better) straight away again. We're aiming to complete 12th Feb but yesterday our buyers rang us having a bit of a go about how we were delaying things (not our fault their buyers have been waiting months is it? They're lucky that we found somewhere so quick both times!) and basically their solicitor has been slagging our solicitor off, saying they're not very good. I rang our sol and we're only waiting for some response to enquiries back from the people we are buying from then it's all systems go for exchange.
I hate how stressful it all is, I vowed never to move house again when we bought this one nearly 6 years ago now and now I remember why...!0
