If they did it to me I wouldn't complain. Let them pay the council tax I wouldn't worry! Mind you bet they'd complain when they realise they've been billed for a period they aren't living there.0

Good point, If I were you I'd just do nothing and let them credit your account. If and when the new owners realise their mistake the council would no doubt re-bill you anyway but for the time being I'd let them get on with it, theres always the chance they won't change it anyway.0 -
hi all..
am joining the house selling club
1st valuation was done today.. the agent said they charge 1.25% for fees and can arrange the HIP report for £300 + vat
was slightly disappointed with the valuation.. they said the same price as a house up further down the row from me which has 1 less bedroom and half the size kitchen extension as mine.. mine in better nick tho..
it has been up for ages tho so perhaps over priced?
got another AE coming tomorrow... this is all a bit daunting.. sounds like some of you guys have been thru the mill
I'm gonna rent when mine (hopefully) sells so no chain on my part
the AE said I didnt need to do any cosmetic improvements, its ready to go.. so that was a good thing (have been preparing for last month or so - 15 years worth of junk removed from attic and garage!)
Off to do a bit more reading up for some tips0 -
Hi all, not been on for a while ... been holding my breathe, fingers crossed, etc.
just a little update for you on our sale
after accepting an offer, we waited 6 weeks and nothing, no survey, no contact.
on the day we accepted an identical offer from a new buyer, the 1st came back very angry, saying we had let her down !!
2nd buyer arranged a survey within 24hrs and paid for searches same day .....
3 weeks later and ..... she's pulled out this morning
close to giving up!
apparantly 1st buyer, still very angry, still interested, but for £1k less.
just waiting to hear the outcome from our EA now.
not looking forward to informing our vendors of yet another set back0 -
Any reason to pull out? Something in the searches? Sod the first one, 6 weeks without doing anything?!?!?0
-
searches came back last week, all fine
they've just stated " financial reasons "
just gonna have to wait and see ... hopefully it wont cost us our new sale :rolleyes:0 -
I've been on holiday for 5 out of 7 weeks, and hoping things might have moved on.
Back last week and still having problems with my sale and purchase - my last update was that my buyers reduced offer by another £15000 which I reluctantly had to accept as I really want to buy the new property I have found.
Turns out now that the property I want to buy is not owned by one person but 2 and the second owner is abroad and has only just been located - was previously shown as one sole owner!!!!! My estate agent even got the wrong country for the other owner of the propery - what a useless person she has turned out to be
My purchasers want a reply by the end of the day that I will move into temporary accommodation next week as they want completion then. They do not want to pay for storage costs - well neither do I, or pay for somewhere else to live! They are not even going to be living here as they want to do it up and rent it out and they have another place to live in
My solicitor thinks they are bluffing - I am not sure if I care anymore.
I knew it was a bad idea to get rid of a lot of my furniture before exchange of contracts! It's like living in storage now - lol

Same thing happened to us, more or less, except it was 3 months without much contact, back in the heady days of 2007. Turned out they had problems with their Northern Rock mortgage, but instead of being up-front with us....etc etc. When they did ring, I had the impression they wanted to back out, so we remarketed, found a new buyer, then the originals came back full of the joys of spring with a fresh mortgage!
Our second buyer pulled-out after a month and the originals seemed so angry, I decided not to proceed in negotiations with them, although they were still 'interested.' They weren't singing from the same hymn sheet with each other, so what chance did we have? Sometimes you are wise to go with gut feelings.
Third buyers were very decisive and struck a great deal, then pulled out in a week flat!
Our fourth buyers were nice people, who did what they said they'd do. They love our old house and we are rather glad they have it.;)0 -
Well miraculously after putting pressure on the agents to put the house back on the market the buyer has suddenly booked the survey in for next week. Hoorah!
I'm hoping that it's full steam ahead now. Fingers crossed....Debt at LBM (March 2006): £30,000

It turns out my buyers have contacted them to give them their details as the new owners from the 28th Aug !!! They said they had phoned them on the 17th Aug to give the new owner details so my account had been closed  hence the rebate
They does sound premature to say the least. Are they first time buyers? Maybe they don't understand that it might not happen they way they want?
My update is that we've packed up half the house with the rest to do tonight and on Sunday (another wedding this weekend, except this time our present to them was for my OH to DJ, so we can't pull out). The moving company is booked, I've arrange for our post to be redirected and will be calling as many utilities as I can when I finish work but...
Still no exchange. They got very close yesterday but this time our solicitor took it upon himself to try to get our seller to pay the idemnity insurance on the driveway - as they are a bank this meant delays. This is despite us having already said that we would pay it, so he delayed it needlessly. Good job he's been fab up until then!! They have said it will happen in the next 2 hours, but they said that on Monday, Wednesday and yesterday, so I'm not holding my breath. I am desperately hoping we're not forced to exchange and complete on the same day though! :eek:Hoping to create a beautiful life for DS and I.
