  • Hi All,

I am new to this site.
I have a baby boy (6 months on sat) Maternity money runs out in a week or 2 & I really don't want to look for a job, I would love to be a stay at home mummy & look after my little boy the best I can.

I do have a fiancee - due to be married at last in September - so we are a bit tight for pennies at the minute.

My fella does work full time & he doesn't really want me to go back to work either. We have our own house & obvious bills to pay.

I was just wondering if anyone knows what you are entitled to as a stay at home mum. I will have to sign onto the JSA when my maternity runs out but I know they will pester me to get a job.

Also my brother has had a baby also - 3 months older than my son & he & his girlfriend has told us to apply for working tax credits. My fella & I are unsure on how they work & has heard a few bad things about them - ie do you have to pay them back?? My brother & his girlfriend has been getting working tax credits for a while & keep telling me to look into them.

Any money advice that could help me be a stay at home mum & be there for my son would be great,

    Thanks all in advance :A

Hi Conorsmum - re paying back working tax credit - that happens if your income changes and pushes you into a band where you are not entitled to as much. If you don't tell them for a while and still get too much tax credit then you would have to pay the excess back when they found out. Does that make sense?!

I take it you're claiming child benefit?

Elle - I'm glad Rhys is doing so well :) Tell him well done from Izzy too!

Bruno - he is gorgeous :)

We both feel better for a nice long nap (1 hour and 45 mins in bed with a little wake up in the middle) I'd taken Izzy into my bed with me, as she didn't want me to put her down, so when she woke up I pretended to still be asleep, and it obviously worked, as I woke up again an hour later!

Hi Searching, congratulations :) Your milk will come in soon, that should sort out your hungry baby! (Get your breastpads ready - you will need 'em!)

    Hiya Searching - congratulations.

Benjamin was like that for the first few days and he was constantly on my boob - when my milk came in (the morning you wake up with Pammie Boobies) things changed massively.

Is he latching on okay? Does it hurt? Does he appear to be drinking with no clicking noises or sucked in cheeks?

...edit - I say things changed massively...he is still always on my boob - but now he is a little chunkster!
