susan did you see those beautiful pillowcase dresses on old-style? Not sure why but I thought of you and Alice when I saw them... Have you got a sewing machine? Any joy on the boot sale front?
*slips off to OS to look for pillowcase dresses*

Yes I have got a sewing machine (which I don't use as much as I mean to). Haven't looked for carboot sales yet cos we're going on holiday at the end of the week.

I do love ebay for funny things like that when I was looking for Muslins last week I found a few people selling a 6 pack of Muslims :p
    :rotfl: Alice calls them "muzzles".

OMG - on This Morning they're talking about a new show about weddings - one cost ..... wait for it..... SEVENTY SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS!!!!!!!

edit - that's more than we paid for our house and 77times more than my wedding cost!
 When we got married in 2005 I read somewhere that the average wedding cost £17k but I guess the extreme ones probably skew the figure assuming it's a mean rather than a median.

That article Sami linked to says, "On average, the children had watched nearly one hour of television per day at the age of 6 months and 1.4 hours a day by age 2".

Am I really unusual? Alice only watched a video once before she was one and even now the only times she's watched as much as one hour in a day has been when she's not so well or when we were moving house.

Sami - do you like your C4? I'm looking for a new car too. Have about £5k so will need one at least 4 years old and Citroens have come up. Just don't have any experience of them.
I really like it, although I find it a bit small now we've got Edgar - once you have both children in a car seat and the P&T in the boot there's not much space for anything else (we won't be getting a bigger car for at least 6months - 1yr and I don't see it as being a major problem tho) I just have to make sure I take the pram out of boot before doing a 'big shop'
    We've got a 56 reg C4 SX in case you're interested...
My first car was an M reg (so about 10yr old at the time) Citroen AX and that was a great little car so I think they age well when looked after :)

Can I ask when everyone stopped or intends to stop sterlising bottles and boiling the water to make bottles. Some of the information given by health vistot states 6 months and some said 12 months. What about sterlising of dummys - feeding equipment - drinking cup etc? Would love to hear everyone elses opinions.

I did bottles until they were drinking milk out of cups. There's too many nooks and crannies in teats and I'm paranoid about milk bacteria having previously worked in a microbiology food testing lab!

I stopped sterilising bowls and spoons etc., from about 6 months.
Also was wondering if most people are following the guidelines and weaning at 6 months.

I was going to wait until 6 months with Charlotte but she was ready for food by 5 months so I just did it then. Personally I think it's one of those cases where you should go with your mother instincts rather than what guidelines.

Right, advice please. I'm trying to persuade DH to book a hol for next June. We'll have Imogen aged 3 and new LO at 11 months. We want child-friendly, near the beach, warm and self-catering (because we need a bedroom rather than cramming us all into one hotel room). Any recommendations please? Don't mind where we go. Loved Portugal last year, wouldn't mind Greece or Spain/Balearics. Specific hotels would be great. TIA

Olu Deniz in Turkey is lovely for children. It's a very quiet laid back resort with no noisy nightclubs and no young people groups. It's mainly families and couples who go. We've been two years in a row and loved it and want to go back again. The Turkish people are so friendly and they adore little ones so your two will get spoiled rottern. Not sure about self catering as we used hotels. You're best off going late May, early June as from mid-June onwards, the temperatures will be too hot for the little ones.

Went to Menorca when James was a baby and that was also very child friendly and most of the resorts are quiet. Majorca is ok if you pick one of the quieter east coast resorts and keep away from places like Magaluf!
Here I go again on my own....

I don't actually know how much Chris watches - our TV is ALWAYS on:o
I bet we'd save a fortune in electricity if we didn't have a TV!

Oh emlou, I'm glad that food is helping him be more settled :) just out of curiosity- why gluten free rusks? are you or OH allergic?

    Where is that blinking cot?!

Apparently there are a few things baby shouldn't have before 6m. This is the site I use CLICK.
Many foods are not suitable for babies under six months, including foods that contain wheat, gluten, eggs, fish, shellfish, soft and unpasteurised cheeses. This is because a baby’s immune system is too young to handle foods that can cause allergies or foods that may contain harmful bacteria.
