Can I ask when everyone stopped or intends to stop sterlising bottles and boiling the water to make bottles. Some of the information given by health vistot states 6 months and some said 12 months. What about sterlising of dummys - feeding equipment - drinking cup etc? Would love to hear everyone elses opinions.

With DS I honestly cannot remember and with DS2 I sterlised and boiled the water until about 10 months. Does that sound about right. DD1 is only 3 months at the moment so a way off yet.

Also was wondering if most people are following the guidelines and weaning at 6 months.

I continued to sterilise Poppy's bottles until she no longer had them at 20m.

It was just [STRIKE]my[/STRIKE] OH's routine and as I was pregnant again quite quickly, the steriliser wasn't going anywhere soon so we just continued :D.

But I have never sterilised bowls/spoons as I weaned both at 6m so didn't feel it necessary. My main concern was with bacteria in bottles but the dummies got thrown in too as the steriliser was going on anyway :).

Righty.. change of plan - Rhys is now coming home on Tuesday of next week :) He needs his jabs and they would prefer to give them here then put him on an oxygen monitor for 24 hours just to be sure he's okay. Thing is, he can't have them until Day 56 and he's only(!) Day 50 today. Jabs on Sunday, monitoring until Monday and by the time he comes off it it will probably be too late in the day to take him home so it'll be Tuesday. A bit disappointing, but at least he's in the best place for after jab monitoring and also it buys us a bit of time to get the house more finished :)

The consultant actually said "his kidneys are working well" this morning - she never thought she'd be saying that! ;) Levels of the bad stuff they filter out are nearly down to normal :D Also found out we won't have to come in twice a week for bloods - the community nurses will do them, plus give the twice weekly jabs he needs. They will also weigh him, and the head scans will go down to once a month so we don't need to come in every week for those. The speech therapist is going to come to us too, so we might not need that yearly car parking pass afterall! :)

Off to the carpet shop now.. fingers crossed they have a fitting slot on Monday!

Next week will be here before you know it and then he will be home, sweet home! :j

Looks as though a good support team is in place too which is fab.

PS: good luck at the carpet shop!

That article Sami linked to says, "On average, the children had watched nearly one hour of television per day at the age of 6 months and 1.4 hours a day by age 2".

Am I really unusual? Alice only watched a video once before she was one and even now the only times she's watched as much as one hour in a day has been when she's not so well or when we were moving house.

I would guess Poppy watches about 30 or 40 mins spread out per day as each programme is fairly short. She looses interest after a while and wanders off to read a book or play.

We don't have the tv on all day but we do have music/radio on lots as she loves dancing!

Hubby woke up with a bad ankle this morning  kind of round the back where his achilles tendon is (I think!) so god only knows what he was up to in the night!

Benjamin slept from 7.30pm til 6am :T he did moan a bit at 3ish but I just popped his dummy back in, gave him his stuffed elephant and gave him a kiss and he went back to sleep!! First time I have ever tried to get him back to sleep...normally I am on auto-pilot to feed him!

When I was feeding Benjamin at 6am there was milk coming out of his nose (we were laying down) I thought it might just be because he was really full (my boobs were bursting!!) so didn't worry too much but it happened again when I fed him at 8.30am

    Any ideas?

Thought I would put the actual important question in bold to separate it out from the rest of the waffle :o

Maybe DH's ankle is due to your weekend away?! :D

    Yay for Benjamin's sleeping!! :j.

Has his feeding gone back to normal now?

Hi all....just been off trying to catch up a bit.

Elle, I bet you're over the moon to have Rhys coming home. It will be much easier for you having the community nurses come to you and not you have to go to the hospital twice a week. I know it doesnt sound much when you're there all the time, like now but it will be lovely for you to have a break from the place.

MFD....Rose kept being sick from her nose so we took her to the docs. He said that the roof of babies mouths do not firm up till almost a year and when they are sick, it is not strong enough to stop the sick getting to the nose. Said it will stop eventually. He did check there was no hole in it too. Said its perfectly normal.

Rose has her injectons tomorrow. She seems so small. Is only 6lb 10oz still. Seems so tiny to be having to go through that yet. Not looking forward to it x

morning - caz, I'm having a bad day too - well a bad few days if I am honest, I've had a horrible cold and although LO has been really very good this sleeping thing is getting me down. I feel like it's really effecting DH and I. I got so frustrated last night that when DH left the room with screaming baby (we were trying to let her cry it out, but her gave in and picked her up while flashing me a look that suggested I was the worst mother that ever lived) I threw the baby monitor across the room and it broke. So then I was even more annoyed at myself than I had been to begin with. I don't think i'm very good without sleep.....

anyway, bought a book on sleep from amazon and will see what I can do - otherwise I've found out about the sleep lady that works here in edinburgh. A friend is off to see her this week, so if she thinks it's worth it we'll go too. Although at £35 for a one hour session or £345 for a month of 'support' i'm hoping some ideas from a book will help us just as well :(

needed some quiet time so LO watching Cbeebies. Now I feel bad about that - I hate this mothers guilt malarky. Perhaps a shower then getting out for a walk (if the rain stops) will help?

((((HUGS)))) hun. Does LO sleep throughout the day? In the car? In her pram?
One day I promise you that you will be able to laugh about it and tell BabySmiler's fiance about when she worked you up so much you broke her monitor so you didn't have to listen to her anymore ;):D

Hi MFD - Did he choke or struggle to breathe when it was happening? It probably is nothing to worry about, but if it does keep happening or makes him struggle/distressed, I would definitely take him to the docs.

    Mel x

He was fine! Just a dribble coming out of his nose - we were laying down so I could tell it was def coming from his nose. He has never done it before and he didn't even seem to be aware of it.
Toby often has milk coming out of his nose. I think I've got a bit of an overactive letdown, plus he can be a bit distracted and lazy with swallowing. Doesn't seem to bother him though.

That is pretty much what the BF Counsellor said - I saw her at baby massage so asked her what she thought it was. She said that knowing Benjamin he was probably too chilled to swallow...either that or he wanted to burp but was too greedy to stop feeding for a second :rotfl:That's my boy!!

Either way she said it was definitely nothing to worry about.

    Thanks for all your replies.

Elle - probably best to be next Tuesday in the long run...at least then you have a chance of being ready for him!!!

Weaning - we will start to wean when Benjamin can sit up unaided...likely to be closer to 6 months than 3!!

We were hardly swinging from the chandeliers!!! He was fine when he went to bed

Maybe he just wanted to be waited on for the day

Yup - Benjamin doesn't care where his milk comes from or goes as long as he gets lots of it :rotfl:

Ah - I bet Poppy dancing is beautiful!! I say her flamenco dress on FB - GORGEOUS!!! xxx

for the poor ladies with babies who have reflux can i ask what medicine they are on? my nephew will not stop being sick and has lost weight over the past 5 weeks. HV and doc are useless making out that there is nothing wrong. evetually she has app at hospital on friday and i know abi was given amiprisol(sp?) but we are looking for a few things to have as back up rather than being fobbed off with gaviscon which makes him constipated and even more sick lol! thanks in advance

I know its not medicine, but when Jasmine had reflux (6 years ago so cannot remember the name of what she had) the one thing that no doctor or HV mentioned, but I was told by another mum was to never have her in a lying flat position. I had her at an angle at all times (phone book under the cot legs at head side) and it really helped !!

You are probably all really smart though and knew that, but I didnt :)
